Fantastic service from Rainbow workshop (Independent)

Thanks for that, useful to know. I was thinking about using Steve and moving from the main dealer. Do you know if he does tyres ?

Hi Buttertub, bet he does or will. Decided to run my GSA to 100,000 miles, so once out of warranty used Steve, fantastic how much money you save if it’s a keeper over dealers, then again if you sell, Steve fully stamps your book and follows service schedules to the book.

Hope this helps,

TD.

Thanks for that, i'll give him a bell next week to see about tyres.

Nice to see a bike being used like yours, well done, i've piled a shed load into bikes and sold with hardly any miles and then regretted it after the event. I was just about to do it again with the new 1300 and trade my 1200GSA and 1250gs in and then thought, 'why ?' i enjoy riding both, both in great condition, prefer the looks, more than enough power, got all the extra's just how i want them. So the best decision i've made for a while is just to enjoy riding what i have.

I guess I'm a tad biased .... but I've known Steve for over forty years. His workmanship and thoroughness have always been absolutely top notch.

Always a cup of tea and a biscuit, even if you only look in to have a look around, introduce yourself. Steve will not compromise :thumb

Couldn’t be arsed to give me a quote on a service when I contacted him, he just said “look on my website”. Not the best way to win new custom but hey ho.

I just looked at his website , prices seem very good indeed.

Unfortunately there was nothing on the website when I looked, only the ‘front page’. Maybe just coincidence the system was playing silly buggers on that day. I was happy to trust his reputation but wanted to get an idea on prices before booking in because it was a K1300, not my usual boxer engined bike. It was going to be c. £750 at my local main dealer 6 miles away so I did it myself.

Website working for me, just now

But you have to look at the menu in top right and not just the front home page - just like the majority of websites & they have a menu to locate all the services/ goods they offer

Not that hard really ….

Cannot disagree with that
First met Steve in 1996 and been on a few Easter Borders trips that you ran, with Steve along too

Great rider too

Wasn’t knocking you mate, purely commenting on the reasonable prices. 👍🏻

Glad to see a well used 1250 there TD, since trading my old Hexhead I have had worries about all the high tech gubbins and wondered if I should have kept my old bike. Seeing your bike reassures me that they are still making bikes capable of decent mileage.

Any mechanic that is in demand for his services probably gets busy, so if he is a bit curt with you and refers you to his website its probably not being intentionally rude, perhaps just too busy to be overly pleasant at the time of calling ?

In my case I just had my VW T5.1 clutch and DMF changed by my trusted local VW independent van and car specialist, he also is both usually very busy and also dry witted to the point of being misunderstood as abrupt/rude sometimes, but he is good enough to be worth keeping on good terms with.

You can say anything positive about him, but negative posts are not allowed as Steve has no flaws (unlike the rest of us 😉)
We all have flaws, even Steve
Maybe he's a bit blunt (as Steadysteve found out), he calls a 'spade a spade', hates useless German tat on bikes & crashbars, with a passion - but overall he's good humoured, fair & honest and a stickler for detail and doing a job right (plus more importantly he says if he can't do something, if hasn't got the right tooling etc)
Oh ...................and he doesn't suffer fools gladly......................being from Yorkshire ;) :DD:JB

As I like to say here down South.........

"You can tell a mans from Yorkshire, but you can't tell him much."

Like him, I don't suffer fools either. You don't have to be from Yorkshire to wear that badge of honour. Maybe he has grown up since he left Rainbow, because he had a real attitude when he worked there.

Never had any problem with him, always looked after me well and I liked/like him.
