Farkle development including the front crud

Prototype made

Guys prototype for the pannier rack is made - I will post the images later today.

Looks good, I'm gonna make two for me!

Prototype - at this stage I`m thinking one for the left and one for the right to allow individual positioning to help with space, mild steel and powder coated black - no need for stainless! What do we think guys?

Pretty damn good, :thumby:

Whats the cost Mark ?

Well, I`m kinda struggling on this one - normally I usually don't give a toss what it costs, indeed the more expensive the better I`ve made it (which I like) but in this case lets be honest its just a couple of frames to hold our panniers on the garage walls - nowt we are fitting to out beloved bikes - so in this very rare case I`m trying to engineer cost out of it by using powder coated mild steel with some `user assembly` to keep the costs down.

With all that said I`m kinda thinking what I would be happy to pay for a pannier rack for my panniers, not that I`m a cheapskate but TBH anything more than £20 each and I`d rather just leave them in a heap in a corner of the garage - I don`t know if I can make them for this `price point` (never done this sorta thing before) but I`m kinda guessing that this would be a good price (the problem is the powder coating - I cant do this and I get the feeling that they will want about a tenner to coat each one.........)

but whatever the cost they will still be nice and over engineered..............................

So I hope this helps as its bloody confused me :bounce1

I'd be interested in some Mark.:thumb I'm not bothered about powder coated if it keeps the cost down, as you won't see them when the panniers are mounted:rob

I also would not worry about powder coating them there not ornaments or for window shoppers but solely serve one purpose and the cheaper the better for us poor folks.

Dogs Nuts Mark! You are the man.

Make sure you get your company name cut in for the advertising :) I think you may find a good market for these, no one else seems to be doing them. I for one have limited garage floor space for panniers and with two bikes cannot leave them fitted, but have plenty of empty walls.

Pricing is well within the ballpark.

Practical and sensible but lacking a bit of artistry.

Just my own humble opinion.

I will still have a set though, but what about my top box? :D

Think the racks look awesome and are a brilliant idea. Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the cost but stick to your principle of high quality value for money. On that note I have just ordered your radiator guards and muck catcher for my new GS and can't wait for delivery. How do you feel about not working or going out until you've finished the order? Sorry I didn't quite catch that!
Carry on the good work. I put you forward for a knighthood in the honours list but they just ignored me as usual.:D

Funny man :rol

However, kind words, thank you.

but lacking a bit of artistry - very very funny man :D

Right, what I`ll do next

Ok guys, I`ll make a couple of racks for me me me me (its all about me me me :D) and I`ll get them powder coated - I`ll then post them with prices with or without powdercoating and then its up to you what you want.

Naturally I will respect any opinion however just let me very respectfully point out that if they are unpowder coated they may look sh*te after a while........... can`t say I`m overjoyed to associate my work with that sort of thing but once again I will respect everyones wishes best I can!

Hanging Racks

Just a thought but is there quite a lot of surplus work/materials in your proposed design? Practically, don't you only need two hook points which if necessary for ease of mounting with correct spacing could be joined by a minimum of steel plus one spacer or bumper to be placed lower down and in the middle to act as a protector. I do like the look of your rack but just thinking about cost...

yes and thank you for your very valuable contribution :bow you have a very valid point however such is the weight on the two upper brackets that quite a substantial plate IMHO had to be incorporated to spread the load over as many fastening points as possible. With this said I will try to take some more material out of the design however sometimes the cost of expensive laser profiling can exceed the cost of the additional material.

Nonetheless, excellent observation and I remain thankful for the time you have taken to offer it :thumb

Prices for the pannier frames

Guys, I`ve been to the powder coaters and they will coat both frames for £15 a pr for me for `qty` work.

I`m kinda thinking £39.99 a pr seems not unreasonable.

I`ll have the two samples back tomorrow (£50 min order ) which I will be keeping for myself :D

I`ve made 9 pairs so there is a limited availability on them (so far only about 4 of us have said they wanted some...........) so I`ll post the images hopefully tmoz.

I just screwed a couple of large hooks into the roof joists and hang the panniers from their handles.

But then I'm skint :D

Sorry. I'm on the phone.
