Anyone heading to faro 2011 ?
any ideas of costing of camping sites, entry cost, types of tents & sleeping bags etc
first time so any tips

Lo mate yep I am off myself, been a couple of times before but to be honest this is the first ride down.
Its 40E to get in and that is for entry to the site, t shirt, a gift (last year a mug) entry into 2 draws one for a bike and one for a holiday in Daytona, tickets for 2 meals on Saturday and a meal on Sunday morning (each includes a beer) and a few other bits.
Its hot in the day and stays that way at night, I took a Tipi last year for lots of air flow through and will take it again, a mattress of some kind, and a groundsheet the ground is very dusty and stony so a groundsheet is essential. I took a very lightweight sleeping bag and a cotton liner ended up using the liner and the bag as a pillow ;-), beer on site is cheap, so is water.
If you want to buy food or drink in a local supermarket you will need a cool bag and buy ice, and expect it only last a couple of hours at a temperature to use so dont bother.
Free bus from the site to the town on Faro in one direction or the beach in the other, cheap food at the beach, and there is reasonable price food down town. There are a couple of really good restaurants near the site but you "have to be in the know" for where they are, they are cheap and very good value but can cater for 60,000 so I am not putting that on the internet (pm for details).
Not like any other event you are likly to attend unless you have been to daytona or sturgis and its a bit like a small version without the attitude of the septics.
I am planing to do the long ride, we are going on the portsmouth/caen crossing and riding down over 3/4 days and then the same on the way back.
We are looking at rough figures of £150 for the ferry, £300 for fuel (150 each way) the distance from Caen is about 1200 miles each way, I figure on about 15 a day on accomodation on the road and the same on food/drink so thats 8 x 30 - £240.
Gives a cost of roughly £700 for the trip all in 40E entry to the event and then spending money over the rally.
