So, it being winter in this land of sheep, I'm trying to sort out the fast idle lever that sticks ever more persistently in the halfway position (03 1150GS, in case it makes any difference).

I can see the cause - the plate, spring and ball bearing of the detent mechanism are somewhat rusty. Also there's a lot of free play in the lever - maybe it's chewed the plastic of the slider over the years?

Anybody ever tried replacing the ball bearing?

Failing that, I guess it's time for a new lever assembly. Which slides over the end of the handlebar. Which means the left heated grip needs to come off. I can win enough slack in the wiring to get the grip off the end of the handlebar, but I'll need to unplug the cable to change the fast idle lever. I guess there's a connector somewhere in the electrics, but where?

Many thanks to anyone who can illuminate...

Dunno about the 1150 but IIRC on the 1100 the heated grips wires are fed through the bars, and exit about central. They then go in to a couple of connectors just in front of the Motronic. It's a tank off, or at least a lift the tank up job. Bit fiddly feeding the wire back through the bars...
