Evening all,

had my GS idling away nicely when warm this afternoon, which considering how much I've had it in bits & put back together is a bleedin' miracle in its own right :)

When I started it up, I needed to use a fair degree of throttle 'cos the fast idle lever had virtually no effect at all (although I did see the throttle bodies move very slightly).

So, have I:

  1. Too much slack on the fast idle cable
  2. Too little slack on the fast idle cable
  3. Buggered up installation of the cable in the Bowden box

If (3), insert vast amounts of swearing here: <................>

My fast idle doesn't make much difference to the tick-over speed ('04 1150 GSA), in fact I don't notice any difference.

I haven't touched the adjustment - its as the Dealer set it up and maintained it (I hope).

It starts in cold weather OK (sometimes I hold the idle lever fully open if its really cold).

It sounds as though yours is normal.

Bob.

Any other problems, too? I ask because the problem you mention was recently one of the first signs of a failing coil pack thingy on my bike.

Fellow Hong Konger

Hi Nick, can't help you with your woes but thought I'd say gidday on account of me living and riding in HK for the past 9 years.

Finished up on a K1200RS which is for sale out in Sai Kung...but hopefully that has gone through.

Have been out of HK and am back in NZ for a year now...couldn't help myself and am back on a bike. Presently have pulled the valve covers of an 01 R1150GS and am going to start with my first of many small jobs.

What a great machine and so much easier to work on than the K. The old K used to get fairly warm riding through those tunnels in the summer...suspect the R might cope a little better.

Good luck with your present woes.

Kind Regards
Phil

Hi! Actually I replaced the coil sticks from MotorWorks in the UK - all fine and dandy now. The GS is a great bike for HK - I ride to and from the airport most days and commute thro' the X Harbour tunnel - stop go, hot and sticky for cars but the GS filters great! Who is selling the RS? Simon the mechanic guy?

Good luck in NZ - great place!

Oh - sorry for the quick thread hijack!! :beerjug:

Simon has done some work on the bike I believe and it is apparently going to a skipper on one of the Super Yachts near Hebe.

All it's riding was out to the airport as well. So it had some good runs. Generally kept out of town traffic.

Yes the GS is perfect for HK. I had an Africa Twin when I was on the island and it was great.

GS also great for NZ. Better go watching the All Blacks in HK....14/14. after 46mins
