The fast Idle slider on the left bar...is it suposed to stay where you put it?

If I move the slide forward the engine revs increase but as soon as I let go it springs straight back!

Can it be adjusted or is it suposed to do this? :eek

On my 1150 ... you pull it up all the way back for fast, fast idle... when you release it, it drops back into fast idle and when you push it back down it goes into the normal position.

Mine got a bit notchy once - a good squirt of WD40 down the lever hole sorted that out. IIRC it's adjustable too.... useful to know this when your TB balance isn't going quite as planned :D (Or is it just the throttle cable that is adjustable, can't remember...)

For some reason mine won't hold by itself!

it just springs back on its own which is next to useless!

mine was like that, so i checked free play in the cable against bmw's stated specs. it was spot on, so i adjusted it up a bit 'til it worked like masterdabber describes.

it works fine now, but is not set as per book.

It's got a little spring and ball-bearing arrangement which seizes. Take it apart and clean/lube it. Note that you DON'T have to take the entire switch assembly off to fix it - it comes apart quite easily. Have a ride down the A45 and I'll do it for you if you want.

Just had a look at the fast idle and it turns out it just required adjusting.

Adjustment was made just under the slider, on the cable with lock nut which is actually covered in a rubber sleeve.

Works a treat now!

Thanks for the help. :thumb
