Hi All,

Wandered into an HD dealer today, mostly because I was bored, and sat on a used Fat Bob. Found it rather comfortable. I've got a test ride lined up for Friday..

Now, I'm used to BMWs, and am just wondering what to expect? I've read some reviews that it's not that bad to ride, only the brakes are a bit iffy.

So, can anyone shed some light on the Fat Bob or Harleys in general? (I know nada about HDs...)

Thanks,
Awfers

Not regretting mine yet, one of the better braking Harley's I've ridden and a million times better at everything than the Softail Heritage I had before this.

I was expecting to read that "Fat Bob" was the salesman......... :blast

They look great in the showroom , they are fun to ride . I had a Road King , a Road Glide and finished my Harley ownership with a lovely Fat Boy in Diamond ice ( Silver) I loved them but Found I spent too much time cleaning them . In Brighton the Sea air was constantly trying to turn the chrome brown. The Glides were big with the Boxes on and crap in traffic and did not handle in the wet . the Fat Boy was a lot of fun but no use as a day in day out ride . At the time I had the Fat boy a tiger and a T Max . I sold all of them and bought a 1150GSA . That was 2002 . I have not gone back to a Harley. Had a look a few weeks ago but it didn't do it for me . That itch has been scratched .If you like it go for it , just very different to a GS/GSA . Bit like riding a Wurlitzer Juke box :thumb2

Was directed at Robbo's 1200adv post, op asked for advice on Fat Bob, Robbo refers to a Fat Boy:rolleyes:

Of course you're correct :thumb2

It's still early for some of us :D

Although a lot of points re. Harley's apply generally...

Or Harleys in General ....................:thumb2

On a serious note:-

Never go into an HD Dealer.

Buy an Evo engined bike from 1990-1999.

Don't spend more than £5000.

Happy Riding :thumb2

i test rode one for 3 hours, and then bought a 16 Year Old Evo Glide....

if i bought a new TC Harley i would go Fat Bob..... they look better with a single headlight and i've seen a few converted...

it will be smoother then you thought, slower at first but they get faster as you get used to them and the brakes are just well.... OK...

get as long a ride as possible...:thumb2

Dyna chassis will handle better than you think, use at least one more gear than usual and slow down a bit. Use a lot more back brake if you want to stop. Don't assume you have to keep anything as standard. :cool

Don't take the whole thing seriously :hide

I demo'd one and loved it. Bought a Glide though as i wanted two up touring capacity.

If i already had that option covered it makes a great alternative solo bike. Handles well and riding position is excellent :beerjug:

Thanks everyone, I'll approach it with an open mind, and brake sooner ;-)

David Nimrod, why only look at 1990 to 1999 models?

Because that's what he has and he's really rather taken with it! :D:D:D:D:D
