Fatal Accident on the A85 today

Jesus. I can't believe this news. Dave was one of life's gentlemen. It was a pleasure to know him. RIP mate

Dave was a real bike guru who worked on a few GSs and bikes for folk on here: GC and Coolcarbon's as well as my own and Schtum's.

Dave was an engineer, a climber, skiier, mountain biker and all round thrill-seeker. He raced a CBR600 in the Hot Trax Endurance series.

He was fiercely (and I use the word advisedly) intelligent and lived his life by his own high moral standards.

He's the only man I know who cracked the algorithm which Honda uses for its instruments so that he could convert VFR clocks from KM to miles and replace the instruments on bikes and reset them to the correct mileage.

He's also the only guy in the UK to have fitted the AA Performance supercharger kit to a VFR for a customer. He regularly had guys bring their VFRs from as far afield as the South of England to have them fettled and serviced.

He leaves a wife, a son and two daughters.

elderly couple ?

Looks like they tried to do a U turn in road.

Please don't try to work out what happened from the position of the vehicles involved in the photograph :nenau

In thirty years on the job, most of it in traffic, attending and dealing with hundreds of accidents, I know that vehicles end up in some peculiar positions!
Even experienced accident investigators can sometimes have some hard work to do to unravel exactly what happened, and certainly will not come to any conclusions based only on the final position of the vehicles involved.

Aye.

Whatever happened, it's an almighty fuckup/life changer for all concerned......that's all that really matters.

Sympathies for all :(

Quite so Bill. I loved Dave Roberts like a brother and he drove me to distraction in equal measure. One day he's with us, on the other end of the phone and the next he's not. No amount of speculation or recrimination will change that, much more so for his wife and three kids than for me or any of his other many good friends.

Sorry you heard about it this way, Gordon.

Ronnie called me late last night at work Mike.
I spent time at his house, with his family.
I wont look at the photo, regardless of the circumstances, its a terrible loss and I feel for them.

Sad news indeed

A really tragic waste of a talented, loving family man, who was loved and liked by many on here

RIP and God's speed

So sorry to hear this sad news. Dave was a brilliant bloke, generous to a fault and one who you could depend upon to help in any way possible. I had work done by him on my Vtec and met him in 2003 on a VFR club run in Scotland. Man, could he ride a bike !! He'll be a great loss to his family and friends and I wish to pass on my sincere condolences to all of his family and those who will miss him.
