Fatal Accident on the A85 today

Didn't know the man, just wanted to add my condolences to his family and friends. RIP

SchTum was this the legendary "GreenVFR" from the honda vfr club?

I had many conversations with him about changing VTEC km/miles. Never actually met him but such a nice bloke.

Condolences to his family and friends. RIP

The very same, I'm afraid, Ian.

I had many conversations with him about changing VTEC km/miles. Never actually met him but such a nice bloke.

Yes, as I said, the only guy I know who managed to crack Honda's algorithm so that he could reprogram the clocks on VFRs.

I'll be in Germany and will sadly miss Dave's funeral. It's no surprise reading the posts on facebook the genuine outpourings of grief that so many people are feeling at his passing. So many people obviously had a great love and respect for the man and his achievements.

Me and Gordon (G.C.) will raise a glass in Dave's memory on the day of his funeral and we'll toast him from a Jockgrim bier festival.

always makes me go cold when reading stuff like this

my mate went the same way

76 year old age pensioner for got what side of the road she should be on and hit him head on while he was sitting at a T junction

RIP :rose

Just arrived back from 2 week holiday, very sad to hear this news. Dave serviced my GS a couple of times, he was a gentleman and a very friendly guy

Finally, an admission of guilt.

This is ultimately a good result, although it's a terrible shame that there ever needed to be a result. It is, however, a reminder for all of us who ride bikes that being in the right doesn't keep us alive on the roads when there are thoughtless and incompetent drivers out there. Even someone as capable and skilled as my late, great friend Dave Roberts wasn't immune to the lethal effects of such stupidity. Be careful out there, folks....

Such a tragic waste of a life which has affected so many people, particularly his family.

Really sad to read and made even worse by the lack of remorse shown at the time
and since by the Jaguar driver.

I guess that when your time is up there is not much you can do about it but I feel deeply
saddened by the the whole unnecessary event and angry that it was not the car driver in his place.

I agree with David.
To say the drivers attitude seems callous is an understatement.
Sad to hear - worse yet when it's a friend.
My sympathies Schtum.
While it wont give him his life back - i hope for justice.

Well, let's see what happens at the sentencing in January. Arsehole. They should ban him from driving, permanently, at the very least. ****.:(

What's the betting that his counsel will play the poor old 72 y.o. pensioner card. :rob

Why would his solicitor (counsels normally only operate in High Courts here) need to play any card? He's done well getting his client the chance to plead guilty to causing death by careless driving which very very seldom carries a jail sentence. Causing death by reckless driving is a cert for a jail sentence.

I know giving a 72 year old man a prison sentence wouldn't bring Dave back but it would have served the old bastard right in view of his stupidity and callousness after the event.

All very sobering reading this.
Respect to all.

I can only say that having come upon a person doing a 3 point turn on a blind bend, on a very busy A road...It is all too easy to be taken by the thoughtless actions of another.
I wished the environment in which we ride/drive were improving, sadly it is becoming more dangerous.:(
I remember this each time I take to the roads, which these days is less.

I didn`t know the deceased, who sounds like a thoroughly decent bloke, unfortunately the chap who caused the death, is in many ways more known to me.

I found this photo a few weeks ago when I was trawling trough old photos on my PC. It's Dave servicing my first GS. It was my first meeting with Dave. The date on the photo shows 10/3/06 which would be right. It was the first of many meetings I had with Dave. He repaired and serviced my bikes from then on. He looked after that bike well, even though he thought it a heap of shite. He wasn't far wrong. He rated my replacement GS much higher.

Dave came out to recover me and the original GS several times. He was a really obliging bloke and he didn't half know his stuff.

He was great company. Reading this post and seeing the photo again just serves as a reminder of the senselessness of his death and the huge loss to his family and many friends.
