Fault code EW5

2013 F700GS just had this come up on the display. Bike was running very rough with the dials all over the place, switched the ignition off and when switched back on, the above was displayed and the bike will not start. Any ideas ?.

Google is your friend, copied from another site.
EWS means your key is not recognized (digitally) so the bike stays immobilized. You could try moving the bike a few meters and try again because the system can be jammed by outside sources of distortion.

If that does not help the only option is the dealer for a diagnosis and probably a new EWS antenna.

PS: don't carry the spare key on you, two keys in the neighborhood of the bike can jam the system too.

EWS = Engine Won't Start

Make sure there is ONLY one key anywhere near the ignition switch and nothing else attached to the same key ring.

This came up on my dash today as I had the bike round the back of my garage - its not been there before, and it was right next to my (smart) gas meter box. I wonder if that was the cause, as I've never seen it before in nearly 7 years of ownership!
