Hi few months back my bike ran out of fuel as the fuel gauge read 178 miles and few min later 57 miles etc... BMW replaced something and this weekend the fuel indicator was at 190 miles and then the fuel light warning came on. Shot to the fuel station and filled it up 29.87£ . Anyway the fuel gauge did not show full and the fuel mileage did not display and to top that he fuel warning light is still on.

Any ideas ? BMW GSA 2010 model.

Thanks

Have a search and you will find lots of posts on fuel gauges not working. Its a common issue for the fuel sender/strip not to work properly even after several replacements. I went through two and gave up after that, I just use the trip meter now.

I let my 10 GSA run out 100 miles after it registered 0. I could hear fuel in the tank sloshing about. Just tipped the bike up pivoting on the side stand and away i went again. there was still a few liters in it. by the way, i had a new fuel sender fitted 1 month ago.
I thing as long as the yellow triangle in not on all the time forget about the fuel guage.

2010 GSA I would be looking for a warranty replacement ...
even if it is out of warranty BMW will often do a replacement as 'good will' as so many have f***ed up ... :thumb

For me using the trip counter when I paid over 10K for a BMW is not acceptable and I will be kicking them about it. How can some fuel gauges work and other dont? From what I can read it is quite a big issue that BMW must fix. regards:mad:

Good point on using the trip counter and you can be as pissed of as you like but you need to get it back to the dealer and get it done on warranty. Good It's not an uncommon issue but before you get all hot under the collar at least give the dealer a chance to fix it:thumb

Indeed ... be nice to them
They are much more likely to tell you to F.O. if you go in guns blazing

Ok so BMW fixed it today. The fuel sensor was faulty and these are quite expensive to replace if you don't fix it during your warranty. They recon that they used to get 4 to 5 gs in per month for this problem but the new sensor seems to work better and now they only get about one gs per month. :blast

Anyway mine is fixed

Cheers and happy riding tomorrow :aidan
