Favour please - can I borrow your front wheel

As the title suggests, does anyone have a an 1150 gs with spoked wheels that I could borrow the front wheel off for a half hour? Ie come to you, swap wheels, I test ride...I've a slight waggle in the front and think it's a buckled wheel. If like to try the bike with a true wheel to either confirm or eliminate that from my list of things to check.

I'm in Dublin but will travel reasonable distances.

Increasing the front pressure to 40-44 psi cures it

What's the extra psi going to do? Do I return it to normal pressure afterwards?

I'll try that and reset the pressure afterwards. Time for those PR4's but not for another couple of Km's if I can manage it. There's only a 2mm run out at one point on the rim. Anyway off to the air compressor.

Johnny, the waggle is greatly reduced. I'll experiment further with different tyre pressures. I'd like to get a few more months out of these.

I've got an 1150 in Dublin.

I run 2.9 bar on the front as recommended by Metzeler.

Firefox, I may take you up on the offer. I need to check all the basics first and it's clear I've been running my tyres far too soft. I'll try that first. Cheers.

I've got some new dust caps for the front sliders. I'll check everything is as it should be whilst in there and hopefully see improvement in the next few days.

Torque

You should also check the torque on the fork clamp bolts...as should everyone on a regular basis.
they can and do loosen up!!!!

I'm heading down to do that shortly.

I went hunting on the web for more info on the tourances and came across a paragraph on the metzler site that made me stop in my tracks. If bike has been ridden even for a few miles they will have heated up and require 4 psi extra to achieve the same pressure as a cold psi rating. Hence, I've been running my tyres at 28 front and 32 rear! Anyway, I filled up to 46/48 which according to metzler is 42/44 when filling with air from cold.

28/32 is a bit eh low....36/42 for 1-up, checked cold and not less.

You can check a lot by propping the front wheel and spinning it holding a screwdriver or a pen to see if it is true. If a new tyre, quite possible not even around the rim, but this would be very obvious and show up immediately.

Deffo check fork clamp screws and axle clamp screws.

I checked everything. Fork clamp torques were all over the place. All cleaned and tightened. The old dust caps had perished so I replaced those and torqued the relevant bolts. I'll have to check axel clamp screws tomorrow. Only had a short ten miles today. I will give it a proper spin tomorrow, it's fierce wet out there today.
