Just putting the tractor back together after a deep clean and fix some areas of corrosion and have a couple of niggles.

1, Could someone post a picture of how the ambient temperature sensor mounts. It should be under the beak on the left but for the life of me I can't remember how it attaches.

2, Also, and slightly more embarrassing, I have a spear connector swinging around behind the headlight unit. I can account for the display cluster, headlight, indicators, spots, sidelight and auxilliary power spur but there is one plug that I cannot find a home for. If it helps any it's the only plug on the front loom with a wire retaining clip.

Have managed to trap a nerve in my shoulder so can't spend too much time at thre angle required to sort these the hard way.

Thank in advance

Damion

No 2. Perhaps the the connection for a sat nav :nenau there is a spare there for that reason.

Next time this may be of use. That spare connector may either be for the Ambient temp probe or for the horn. Have you got ESA, then check the connector is not for the ESA. There is a small connector at the front which is not used, but I can't remember if it had a retaining clip.

The Ambient temp probe goes on the left hand side of the bike, under the radiator/oil cooler. That is the left side as you sit on the bike.

Still can't find what this connectors for, hopefully someone can tell from the photo.

That one is tied back to the black frame on the right hand side so that the connector is just above the horn. There is nothing that connects to it.

Seen from the right.

I've just had a look at mine and I too have the same connector which appears to be redundant, it's not connected to anything and taped to the loom out of the way. So I wouldn't worry about it, it's probably for something on the US model:nenau.

I though it was a spare connector so you could use it to wire up a sat nav socket rather than using the one at the rear of the bike?

Thanks for the picture and especially if you took your bike apart to get it, which is most likely as the chances of you having a random picture of that part of your bike is unlikely.

Have a pint on me...

I think it's the connector for the charcoal emissions canister fitted to US bikes, but I could be wrong.

Not the canister itself - that has no electrical connections. The system does have an electrical connection to the control valve, but that's over on the left hand side and towards the back of the tank. I don't think the connector in the photos would reach that far (although its connector looks like the one pictured)

Is this basically a carbon adsorbsion/absorbtion(??) unit that scrubs fule vapour as the fuel in the tank expands and when the level drops the tank breaths through the carbon reclaiming the the fuel?

If so the BMW committee for extreme uber complication have earned their corn with that one. :bow

Wonder what it does to the MPG figures... :augie
