havin a bit of a discussion with a bloke in my mates bike shop.he reckons a fazer1000 will leave a gs for dead in the twisties and is a better allrounder.i says depends on the rider and he says both riders with same skill ,fazer wiil win.so told him to put his dosh where his gob is.so looks like a challenge come springtime.

Seems a bit daft - if this turns into a race, I suggest you take your bikes to Cadwell park or something ! suitably twisty demanding circuit.

The Fazer 1000 is a good all-rounder, with the R1 motor and front end, but in a package which can be had new for £6K - but its horses for courses - I would hope that a Fazer could see a GS off in some circumstances - with 130-140hp on tap and a superior power to weight ratio.

But, I would contend that any reasonable bike of 500cc plus or 50bhp plus should keep up with any sportsbike on real twisties - it's like saying a Porsche 911 could leave a well-driven Focus RS or Honda Civic Type R for dead on the twisties - it ain't gonna happen, because the Porsche will rarely get the chance to exploit its superior power to weight ratio.

Rather than risk your life proving a point, just ask your Fazer owning mate these questions:

1) What will the finish on his bike be like after one bad winter
2) Come trade-in time, how much value (as a percentage of its original price) has his bike retained

I think you'll have the last laugh.

i know that mate,il let him carry on being a f.....g daft git and he aint my mate just a customer in my mates shop.

I'd say the GS would definatley be better in the twisties.
A mate of mine used to race bikes, he reckons the GS will beat just about anything on a twisty road! But, twisties aways run out at some point, so you can rarley stay ahead for long, especially against something as powerfull as a fazer.
I don't know how he could say the Fazer is a better all rounder though?

Expand the match a bit; not only ride solo through some twisties,
to see who's faster, but really test the "allround" character of both bikes.
Try the same road again fully loaded with camping gear and pillion...
And if he's not convinced by then, do some gravel, mud and sand :D
