Well I fitted the FD unit ok, it slots straight on, the splines are the same. The swing arm and torque arm look exactly the same by eye, but I only fitted the drive unit.
The wheel bolts are longer on the GS than the R, so use your originals.
I fitted the wheel and took it for a spin round the block only to find my rear wheel covered in drive oil!
On examination, the one part that doesn't fit the same is the ABS sensor, as the aperture in the drive housing is a larger diametre than the GS and I could not get it to seal with a variation of O-rings.
Also I suspect it is slightly shorter on the R to the GS as I could feel it 'brushing' against the drive gear inside when I held it in with my finger and turned the disc.
I didn't feel any immediate ratio difference on my trip round the block but I'll check that out when I get it sealed, although it's only 0.16 difference apparently.
All in all I don't foresee this being a major problem, as the ABS sensor just unplugs under the seat, so a 1200R sensor should sort it. An unexpected added expense but heyho, cheaper that BMW's preferred alternative.
I'll get one ordered today and let you know how I go on.
