FD Oil Colour

Dropped my FD oil tonight. This is with 4K on it and 10K since a new Crown Wheel bearing. In real life its a fairly light golden honey colour.

The bearing that fails on the 1200 is a sealed unit. Changing the oil won't make any difference to the majority of the problems with FD's that you read about on here.Obviously won't do it any harm though:D

Couple of quick question sorry to get off topic but does anyone know if the 30th anniversary GSA 2010 comes with a breather on the FD?

Also does the FD that is referred to as sealed mean the non breather ones?

thanks

you could re-use that

you could strain that with a coffee filter, leave it to stand overnight in a clean coffee jar and re-use it, feckin dear enough.
Modern oils go on forever.

If you look at the FD from the right of the bike (i.e. looking from the the shaft drive side) the breather is at approx 1 o`clock if that makes any sense.

Its made of rubber, about the size of your thumb and can be pulled out (but remember to put it back in!).

Hope this helps.

I would imagine the "sealed" FD refers to the early ones that did not have a drain plug for the oil. My '08 has a drain plug but no breather. I think from 2010 onwards the FD's were fitted with the breather as well.

Having a 2010 GSa I can safely say `yep thats right` :thumb

Here's the oil from mine - doesn't smell and no gritty bits:aidan
