On my way home from Scotland on Fri,i noticed slightly more vibes through the footpegs on my 07 adv ,the rear tourance is half worn so was thinking that this is the problem, however i noticed very slight play at the rear wheel at the 6 to 12 position which i never had before so i decided to drop the oil which was very black but there was no sign of swarth[filings].Anyway i changed the Fd to my spare and tested this morn over 100 miles,.Vibes are back to normal and no play at all so im sorted for now,Question is as i reckon ive caught the other fd before it self destructs where or more importantly is it financally viable to repair it .The spare unit i put on the bike cost me 100 pounds and looks like new with only a very small cosmetic mark so im also considering gettin another of the bay.bikes recently out of warranty:thumb2
ps the original fd has lasted for 24000 miles

I had an interesting experience - when I corner there is a loud whine from the back - is that my old tyre - all this FD stuff has got me paranoid.
I have a 2004 GS with 91,000 miles on it and I only bought it 4 months ago. I don't hammer it, although the pervious owner used to ride hard and very fast.

What is the criteria? absolutley no side-to-side play?

Thanks
Peter

1mm of play is apparently acceptable.

Is that at the edge of the wheel - so one would have to estimate it or do they put a dial gauge on the wheel rim? Thanks

I have to say this has made me a bit paranoid and my bike has done 91,000 kms

vibration was more of an issue which as i said dissapeared when i changed the fd,has anyone a costing to refurb with all new bearings and seals.

Ask PatZX12, he has rebuilt his own in the past an has a wealth of knowledge on the subject, he's in the Emerald Isle too.
