Fed up Mutlistrada owner !

Hi Folks , I bought a Ducati Multistrada 1200st just before Christmas new 2012 model , I can report its a fantastic bike to ride , the best ! ... However as far as reliabilty goes its the worst bike I have ever owned since a 10 year old BSA C15 that I had in 1976! the issues are endless , ranging from minor niggles too pretty serious stuff like endless siezing of the ex flapper valve , cutting out when putting into gear , battery discharging when ign off ,back brake is useless etc , I wont go into all of it here its just too much and I am fed up with it , Did previously felt pulled to a BMW GS but the Multi won me over, Ive joined too keep a eager eye on your posts and experiences , If this Multi isnt sorted finally for good and pretty quickly I think i,ll be jumping ship and joining you guys
 
Hi mate, I had a test ride on one before I bought a GS TB,I came off an 1198 sports and loved the multi engine BUT I found it a tad uncomfortable for any length of time and two up the Beemer won hands down, I don't miss the power that much and if you work the boxer engine you can still have fun, my mates got a multi and he's had issues with the electronic suspension back brake is shit and corrosion on some of the fasteners which I can't understand as I've had two ducatis and never had a problem, hope you get it sorted if not go and have a long test on the GS.
 
Thanks for this - I was almost ready to seriously look at the Multi in Motorbiking. I won't bother now.:thumb
 
It is still a cracking bike there's plenty that love them and the reviews are good just go for a standard with ABS.
 
Strange thing is I havent had any issues with the complicated computer assisted gizmos , electronically adjusting suspension , diff ride modes etc all work a treat , Its the bloody basics that are no good !
 
I'm toying with one of these but i have owned a few ducatis and had a friday afternoon 1098s so not sure if i can go through all that again, had gearbox and stalling issues that were never fixed. px'd it for a brand new r1 but regretted it immensely. Bought another one later on and that was perfect.

Still look on the ducati forum it is littered with tales or woe and then you get the odd one thats been perfect, seems the way with ducati, quality control very hit and miss.

Personally speaking having owned ducati and bmw's ii reckon the gs is a way more robust machine, though some might disagree.

I had a lot of hassle with my K1200GT and recalls. I was thinking Multi but i would want the top spec bike. I live 170 miles from the only dealer in Eire and i just couldn't be bothered running up and down to the dealer foe warranty work.

Im on the Ducati forum and did make a few posts regarding my probs , Its hard too admit to others you have spent 15 grand on a pile of unreliable junk , Ive been biting my lip and giving the bike the benefit of the doubt for long enough now , not any more , Im furious and telling it like it is from now on

I've just traded in my 2010 GSA which had all the extra's for a brand new multistrada 1200s sport. I parked the BMW up at the Manchester ducati store and after a 15 min test ride on the Ducati it was sold !!
The power difference, weight difference and comfort on the Ducati compared to the GSA was far superior. The bike was so easy to ride and throw around I couldn't resist! The build quality is very good and overall I think it looks more modern and is great to look at.
Should be picking it up this weekend so hopefully it will live up to my expectations.

I loved the GSA but I have to say the Ducati was great to ride and I'm really looking forward to putting it through its paces !

I will let you know how it goes on and if I've made the right decision shortly

You'll be welcome on here Dave what'ere you ride, but you'll need to change that user name .... it's worse than having 'Sharon' or 'Tracy' tattooed on your forearm ;)

I cant fault the Multis quality of ride , handling , performance etc , Its truly brilliant I freely admit... and that just increases my frustration ... What good is all that if the thing is constantly undependable and unreliable
 
i had a 1200 s for the day on saturday and it was amazing! made my gsa feel like a tired old donkey and its got a full race pipe power commander and full map, im swapping this week if everything goes ok
 
stalling going into gear is a faulty clutch switch - just bypass it.

lock the exhaust valve open - makes no difference to it.

what else u got ?
 
I was looking at the Multistrada to replace my GS, but we looked at a three month old one last summer which was very badly corroded (every fastener and front/rear axles etc.) despite being registered in March 2011 :eek As my bike lives in a cold, damp concrete garage, i felt even a new one would disintegrate over winter.

The next one we looked at was nearly as bad and then Cobb & Jagger double booked their demo bike and wasted my time one Saturday morning, so I took my bat and ball home :mad:
 
Had mine for 18 months, 9k on the clock, I have had no issues or malfunctions (touch wood), the bike is plenty fast, very comfortable and puts a big grin on my face every time i ride it.
Just like BMW and other brands getting a trouble free model is a bit of a lottery.
