Just had 6000 ml service at Oxford, on my 07 GS cost £270, included new rear brake pads at £60 for the ones that last longer. The soft ones were £20 cheaper. I tried my politest best to get the dealer to try and persuade BMW to replace the old style top box with one that does not fly off when you go over a bump but no joy. oh well not to worry. Staff were friendly and lent me an identical GS whilst the work was done so that was good, it had the new style retaining bolts and it felt a lot more secure. I have been advised to try customer services myself, will let you know the outcome. I shall also have a moan about the pads which seem to be made of marshmallow (planet friendly apparently) pointless i know but what the hell.

Went through first set of rear pads in 9000miles, second set in 11000 miles. Both sets were original BMW pads. Have replaced with EBC HH and they feel great but will have to see how the wear rate goes. Original front pads still in at 22000 miles but have two sets of EBC HH ready to go in. Paid £22.50 per pair which also saves a bit of money on BMW items.

NOG know how to charge.... £170 for the first 600m service (£50 labour the rest fluids and parts). I was lent an FS800 which made an interesting change from the GS

Last week i paid £320:eek: for 18K service at NoG. On picking the bike up they said that rear pads and disc needed changing soon, and quoted £215 parts and labour! I'm doing the pads tonight. Couldn't see much wear on the disc and on measuring with a vernier its only lost 0.5mm in 18k. Disc worn, I don't think so.

Feck £320 for an 18,000 service????

18,000 miles service at Clarkes last week was £181.94 inc rear brake pads!!! Think I must have a good dealer:)

I`m quite pleased with the life of the rear brakes pads because I use the back brake a lot to steady the bike.

feeling much happier now having read all your interesting posts, cheers.:beerjug:

Retaining Bolts

Could you please explain your comments about Top Boxes flying off on an '07 model and 'new style retaining bolts' please?

it's nothing to do with the bike, it's to do with the top box. The old style top boxes (mk1 and 2) had a tendancy to crack around the mounting lock on the top box or even worst to come off all together, and the next thing you know is you've done a couple of miles with no top box.
Do a search and you should find pictures of the difference between old and new

Why isn't it to do with the bike

The top box is fitted to that bike and that bike alone

BMW should design it properly in the 1st place and it wouldn't fall off

It's a design flaw in the bike...................albeit granted it's not mechanical

My one came off when the mechanic was test riding it after a service on my previous 54 GS. Saved me the bother of having to explain the circumstances etc so good result for me. My only bother now is that i feel it will only be a matter of time before it happens again.
