I was looking into a ferry to scandinavia when I heard about the sailings stopping...
so I rang and made a few calls to DFDS freight who are still running a roll on roll off ferry service from Newcastle -> Brevik (near Stockholm)
which is £217.00 each way
now this involves you NOT travelling with your bike.. this suits me down to the ground cause I get sea sick...
(I think we should build bridges everywhere
and burn all the boats... )
the twice weekly sailing times are
depart: Newcastle Wednesday 5:30am - arrive: Thursday Brevik 19:30
depart: Newcastle Saturday 16:00 - arrive: Monday Brevik 02:00
they take the bike from you in Newcastle and wheel it onto the ferry, you then pick it up on the far side from the inbound freight office.
KLM fly from Newcastle to Stockholm, www.klm.com
and then it is a 30 minute train journey out to Brevik
http://www.sj.se (swedish rail service website in english)
this wont be for everyone cause a lot of people dont get sea-sick...
this way I get to spend more time in enjoying the sights waiting for my bike to arrive...
