I was looking into a ferry to scandinavia when I heard about the sailings stopping...

so I rang and made a few calls to DFDS freight who are still running a roll on roll off ferry service from Newcastle -> Brevik (near Stockholm)

which is £217.00 each way

now this involves you NOT travelling with your bike.. this suits me down to the ground cause I get sea sick... :(

(I think we should build bridges everywhere :clap and burn all the boats... )

the twice weekly sailing times are

depart: Newcastle Wednesday 5:30am - arrive: Thursday Brevik 19:30

depart: Newcastle Saturday 16:00 - arrive: Monday Brevik 02:00

they take the bike from you in Newcastle and wheel it onto the ferry, you then pick it up on the far side from the inbound freight office.

KLM fly from Newcastle to Stockholm, www.klm.com

and then it is a 30 minute train journey out to Brevik

this wont be for everyone cause a lot of people dont get sea-sick...

this way I get to spend more time in enjoying the sights waiting for my bike to arrive... :beerjug:

I've said it before and i'll say it again, when the hell is someone going to open up a decent bike hire business in Norway?:rob

How much?:eek

I think I will stick to Harwick-Eisberg > Hirtshals-Kristiansand ta. :thumb

Hirsthals - Kristiansand = around 80 Euro per person per bike. Add some 30 Euro if you want to book a chair in business class longe.
Did it two weeks ago.

Yeah I know chap, cheers.
I wasn't asking how much that crossing was.

It was a comment on how much it will cost to ship the bike and fly yourself, then train to bike and ride into Norway (i.e. lots, hence the :eek).

When pigs fly. Do you know what an R1200GS costs here? Appr. £23000. And the season is shooort. Hard to make a business. However, you can try BMW-dealer Speed, they have been known to rent their demo bikes. And there is this guy who rents Hondas.

Brevik's on the Baltic. This would be an alternative way of getting to the Baltic states. They might do a shorter freight route between Newcastle and Gothenburg.
