Anyone fancy a trip to next years Festival au Desert? http://festival-au-desert.org/ The plan is Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania to Mali, returning the same route. I also want see some of the Dakar Rally on the way down if the event dates are compatible. I expect to take 4-5 weeks, leaving the UK in late December.

Is that the one where everyone smokes 'exotic' tobacco and the girls all get nekkid then wander around just wearing body-paint?

If not, then no. :D

Actually Bill, Tiff sadly missed the festival as she arrived too late in Tombouctou.

But I got there in time :D (wey hey!!)
Information is available .....but at a price! those wanting to know more will have to contribute to funds I am raising for SOS Enfants Village! :thumb
(and no, I don't apologize for being mercenary on their behalf- they need all the help they can get and more) :thumb

Dates

The Dakar starts later next year, 6th - 21st of January and the Festival is 11th - 13th, so it won't be possible to see any of the Dakar before the Festival starts. It should be possible to get to Dakar to see the finish though and maybe even some of the last stages through Mali and Senegal. Working out dates and distances at the moment

errrrmmm

:D well yes but , no but...yes but... :nenau the above post!
I must be getting old or have I lost the thread??? :P
If you want to drop off stuff- best get a good head start amigo-

You can call SOS Childrens Village (registered charity number 1069204) directly to make arrangements and discuss your plans and request permissions as you can't just enter the village.

My contact there is: Caroline Baker 01223 365589

I'm taking an 1150 ADV, but anything 600 and above will be fine. Must have knobblies and be able to carry 40 litres of fuel (not necessarily in the tank), 20 litres of water, tent and sleeping bag.
