Is there anyone on here who frequently filters on one on UK roads? If so how do you get on with it?

When I had my 11RT the mirrors clashed with car mirrors making it a pain to commute in traffic on.

I regularly filter on the 08 GSA. Car mirrors are generally OK but van mirrors are just the right height for the bike's mirrors. One solution might be bar end mirrors that could be folded out of the way. But you want RT info so sorry for not helping very much.

I have to filter for about an hour a day in west London traffic, I was temped by the RT when I bought my GSA but as the mirrors are fixed and high it looked like it would be a pain, my old ST1300 was no less wide but the mirrors were low underneath the bars and underneath everything else on the road so perfect for filtering (better than the GSA).
All you can do is try it, get a test ride and give it a go, pull up next too some parked cars see how close you can get, get off the bike and have a proper look etc etc.

...van mirrors are tough fuckers aren't they, I've lost count as to how many van mirrors I've clouted and they never seem to move or get damaged, mind you, I may or may not ever stop to ask (or give a fuck), my memory isn't what it used to be :D

It's not just about width, it's also whether you feel confident slotting it through gaps with minimal clearance on either side, a test ride with some slow speed tooling around in a car park might be a good idea. FWIW I don't feel too confident filtering on my GS even without panniers but I was fine on the KTM 950 with similar handlebar and mirror width.

No problem. The panniers even have a rounded front edge; not like the square alloy ones!

I have loads in and around London - without panniers, top box only. Found it easier than my GSLC.

I do it regularly in London at least the drivers help your by pulling over or folding there mirrors in for you. Try filtering in Leominster!!!!!

Usually around the same height, but they feel narrower than the GS bars - never measured though.

Problem with the GS is that the mirrors are about the same height as every van, 4 x 4 etc - which stick out further than car mirrors.

Yeah, I ride an 1150GSA with rox risers every workday, the rox risers add comfort when passing over car mirros but yes, 4x4's and vans are pain when they are side by side.

Cheap universal bar end mirrors may well be the best answer for regular commutes. Fold in for the tight stuff and out again when you need them.
