This might sound silly but anyone with a 1200ADV do you find it hard to filter through traffic i can do it easy on the GS1200 but i know the width is bigger on the ADV

Haven't found it too bad - obviously changing to a brand new bike (with knobbly tyres) creates it's own mental problems but I was well pleased with how it handles.

Didn't notice the extra weight even with a full tank. Perhaps being 17st helps.

Balance seems as good or better at low speed.

Higher seat makes it a bit trickier to 'dab' your way through a section. Will get used to this no doubt!

Mirrors etc. roughly the same height/width.

Brand new TKCs are quite amusing in a downpour. Little slides all over the place but nothing hair raising. They seem to tip you into a corner quite quickly. Was going to change them but I'll maybe keep them and try some dirty stuff if I get the time.

Haven't found the "running in" 4.5k rev limit to be a problem at all (within M25) - hardly get to 4k and it's off like a (fat) scalded cat.

Pipe sonds a bit fruitier compared to my (early) 1200.

Overall - very happy. :thumb

I was worried about that when I switched to my RT but haven't found it a problem. I suspect (guesswork, mind you :) ) that the GSA is no wider than the RT so shouldn't be a problem.

No probs....

Only rode the 1200GS for half an hour, but the 1200 Adventure is a delight at low speed. Full lock turns, figure of eights with the feet up, can even stop and move off again... it's a delight :thumb

I had a quick test ride this morning - mixture of town traffic (getting out of/into Reading), quick blast on the dual-carriageway and a mile of Byway. Didn't really notice any difference from my 1200 when filtering. The extra wind deflectors seem to work. I was perhaps being a little careful on the Byway, but very impressed with the balance even fully tanked up. I don't think the gearing is different from a standard 1200, but the fueling is better (than mine anyway) - it trickles along nicely even at tickover. The standing up position is pretty good - although I would probably still fit bar risers - and the two height rear brake lever is a useful item. Seat on high setting and preload jacked up - still able to get both feet flat on the floor ;)
I haven't come up with any reasons not to buy one :thumb

It's all in the mind, its still no wider than the bar ends and cylinder heads

I was just thinking the same :thumb
:D

Please stop

Please don't go on about how fantastic the Adventure is. It is ridiculous enough to have forked out the price of a nice little car for an off road standard 1200GS which stays ON the tarmac without indulging in the round the world non stop variety!
My wife cannot even see the NECESSITY of putting a GPS system on my bike - she maintains that I can get from home to the bar ( its daily journey) using an ordinary map!
As far as filtering is concerned I have to admit that I was unable to follow a friend yesterday on his Fireblade - he manages to go underneath the lorry/bus mirrors!

May I suggest that you try follow him next time.

It is with the panniers on!!! Looked at one last weekend, and the panniers are a good inch wider each side than the heads!

Mind you whats two inches between friends? :D
