Final Drive went pop on way to work. Gonna be late. Grr. Nothing but water pissing out of the seal!

Guess they are still not sorted. 10K miles / 18mths old.

Black casing - looks like a 2014 model? not good at all. Hope it is still under warranty.

Yes one of the first GSA LC in the country. Still in warranty.

Fekkin 2 hr wait for recovery !

You really would have thought that after the issues with the 1150's and the oilhead 1200's BMW would have gone all out to ensure that the Bogger FD was bullet proof.

Has the bike been used for off-roading, fording etc.? Been apart for any other reason? What has caused the failure, gaiter sealing issues?

Yes bike has been used on unpaved roads; as per my videos on my you tube channel. Guess the new FD is still not up to the job! At a guess the seal failed and let water in...

That is really not good, I have been looking at going down the LC route but things like this make me pause. Have I missed something but the drive shaft is turning but the wheel is not so looks like the bevel drive is the failure? Either way its bad.

How many LCs have been sold since their introduction in 2013 and how many final drive failures have there been to date?

Probably very few, still a few more than there should have been. Corner cutting? Engineering by accountants?

Exactly. This particular bike has been fording, as per the owners YT videos, so a lot of extreme use. Some bikes had split rubbers on the FD, which was widely publicised on here, so it's one of those things to check regularly.

It's still not acceptable, but 1 in several thousand isn't bad. That won't stop the doom and gloomers spouting that the bikes a bag of shite though.

Is there a special technique used to pull back the rubber boot to inspect .
DONT wanna bust/rip/tear/ruin/stretch/snap anythin and end up with bmw££££££ repair bill and me undies pulled down.
cheers.

I reckon this was a contributor, the FD boot design isn't as robust on all 1200's, as it was on the R100/R1100/R1150 GS for water immersion

I agree. However bike has been in for a main dealer service since then. Plus Strata Florida is a road. Good old Gellande Strasse (bet I spelt that incorrectly).

Busted Mike :clap:clap
However they've always promoted the go anywhere encouragement

Does anyone know how water can escape from the propshaft casing?

The boot on the earlier ones (pre 2015 models ) was apparently in certain cases too soft and there were problems of it being nipped up by the casing when the suspension is on compression and tearing when the joint catches it (mine lasted less than 1500 miles) . According to the dealer the new boots are heavier duty and less likely to rip and let in water

the boot may leak but looking at the original vid, the wheel isnt turning so is this bevel gear failure?
