final drive leak

Hi, Elevensies,

How much did Rainbow charge for the first bearing replacement?

Mine has got 35,000 on it so I am trying to decide whether to do the work myself or book it in somewhere.

it was free under warranty i took out, but expect £150 ish from a dealer.

you can do it yourself but... what happened to me thank goodness i didnt do it myself, as i have just had £1200 quids worth of replacement rear drive because the bearing had scored the seat and wasnt noticed when the oil seal went in. I would have had to pay for this if i had done the original bearing/oil seal myself.

worth a thought.

I've just had a quote from Scriminger,s, they are asking £160 plus the vat. I would have to pay postage on top of that but I would get 12 months warranty with it.
Im not sure what to do. Ive gone through 2 in 30,000 miles but it always after a long haul, fully loaded.
I know its just like changing your sprocket , but they tend not to bugger up half way down the Stelvio....

yeah i know, not exactly sprocket costs either,

its up to you how you go about it, scrimingers are usually very good, so wouldnt worry about the workmanship.

mine went once with no load, the other fully laden so you cant take that as a cause.

I'll wait till the bikes not gettig used much in the winter. My oil has gone very dark and there is very, very small amounts of 'mashed' metal in it. I figure if they can shim it and get it as it should be I,ll be ok till after the next European marathon....
Now the next thing, you know where I can get a Halls switch repaired.....?

do you mean the sensor?

try a search first, to be sure its what you think, i will look for a link in the meantime for you :thumb2

ps, mashed metal will be the bearing cage, change it now else your gona be screwed

actually just type hall sensor in, you will find lots and lots, i hoped i could have been more help, sorry, theres tonns of info

Yeah, your right. I.ll send it off soon. Better not induce more damage. Ive looked for stuff on halls sensor. There was one on here about getting it repaired but cant find it. Ive replaced mine, that went just after the fecking final drive bearing gave up the ghost. Will take carry it as a spare if I can repair it. May need a trailer just for the spares soon! Good job she's the dogs bits, I wouldnt have anything else....

again i know the feeling, its sad really cos i also run a old r60 with advanced milage on:rob, the carbs leak and go out of sync every week, but i have no need for anything other than a multitool should i need to fix:aidan

anyhoo... had a look for the fix and cant see it.

dont ride at all with a fecked final drive bearing mate, it will cause damage.

Thanks for the help. Will remove it this weekend. Will be better than watching Liverpool getting a humping....:(

Its more than likley the wires that have failed not the sensors. If the wires have failed just replace them. Easy job.

You can also buy the sensors for £6 each.
