HI my fd oil has just been changed about 6.5K since last change. 2009 model with a proper drain plug, i noticed this is magnetic and appeard to have some form of graphite grease on it. The oil had no 'bits' in it but appeared to be stained with the grease. Anyone on here experienced similar? There is no play in anything or nasty grinding and the bikes done 14,600 miles.

Sounds fine to me, the "Graphite Grease" you describe on the magnetic drain are fine metal particles that without the magnetic plug would be floating around in the oil acting like valve grinding paste in your final drive.
Just had mine changed courtesy of Steptoe a couple of hours agao and exactly the same thing, the oil was also extremely black (supposedly changed about 3.5k ago by main dealer)
Mine also has a drain bolt so tempted to change FD oil every time I fit a rear tyre as it will only take an extra 10 minutes and it saves worrying about if the dealer can be bothered to do it.
Seeing as I am not certain the last dealer did the job, and have no way of knowing if the next one will either, for the sake of 10 minutes work and about £3 worth of oil seems silly not to do it in light of the FD's fragility.

Steptoe - why did u get him as a customer ??
Bad luck of course, plus I trusted him to do the job rather than charge for it and wheel bike round the back of the nice'n'shiny showroom for an hours expensive parking whilst distracting me with expensive coffee - must be said the coffee was pretty dire, but the £100 saving and really having the job done was fine by me.
