Jim VB's pages show how to change the final drive oil very well. Well, up to the 'putting in the new oil bit' where se says it goes everywhere as it's difficult to get in via the sensor hole and slow to go in. And his pics show oil all over the back of the housing. So I'm thinking getting in 220ml of oil could be the kind of thing that lends itself to a cunning plan or two.

So, what works best? Turkey basters, bits of tube, patience? ???

TVM!

I'm going to do mine soon, I've got a medical syringe for the job (minus the metal needle).

Your friendly local BMW dealer will sell you a syringe kit (with graduations). You can even by a graduated cylinder from Jessops (if you want to be really accurate). :thumb

Small funnel with a rubber hose on the end, use a zip-tie around the disc to hold it in place.
Stand your gear oil bottle in some hot water for a while and the oil will be thinner (less viscous), and measure your amount as you pour it in to the funnel.
Put the 'real filler plug' in before pouring new oil in.

I used a bit of tube, a funnell and a dessert spoon...

Just take your time, don't rush it and it goes in easy (that's what garfield said to Wapping )

I used one of these - linky

It has the added advantage of coming with two delivery tubes.

It makes you wonder how Special Uncle Alan and Brian managed, with a bottle of oil and an old 33 cl water bottle.

Blowzorn turned up with an oily rear tyre and oily rear brakes. His rear bevel wasn’t as oil tight as he’d have preferred. He rang BMW for details of the nearest dealer in Greece but they couldn’t tell him because the address on their system was written in the Greek Cyrillic alphabet. Nice one.

We found a bike garage in Igoumenista to get some oil for Blozorns bevel and to try and locate where it was leaking from. They seemed to be quite relaxed about disposing of their unwanted bikes.

Brian waded in and got his hands dirty, silicon was put on the ABS senor “O” ring and the oil level topped up. The tyre was cleaned up as best we could and we headed off for the mountain roads away from the motorways for a welcome change.
