Just noticed I have play at the wheel at 6 and 12 o'clock and not sure what bearing it may be. When cold will the play reduce? and when I put the rear brake on what does it tell me if it stays the same or disapears. I have just checked it again and and the bike is now cold and the play has reduced. I changed the final drive oil today and it was quite dark, but was last time too (I thought that was normal) I did notice a small sliver or two of metal. Any advice please. Regards, Mark.

If there's still play with the rear brake on, it's paralever bearing play.

Also you can either hold the bevel box casing as you pull the wheel or try flexing the casing only. That way you isolate the bevel bearing or the pivot bearings more easily.

Just checked it

Thanks for all your replies, I've removed the final drive seal and inspected the bearing and all looks well. One thing I did notice was when I turn it anti-clockwise it's notchy 8 times per revolution at regular intervals and clockwise just two per revolution. Is this normal?
I think the paralever needs a little adjustment and need to borrow a heat gun!

Hopefully it's just the paralever but bear in mind that even if the bearing looks okay, cage and balls all in place etc, if there's play in it and it doesn't run smoothly then it's gone south - doesn't have to be all ripped up.
