new to these parts so hi all :D. any ideas, bike is 2000 1150 gs 12500 mls, on my own it rides fantastic. 2 up (even with 8 stone daughter) any amount of lean angle (even just weaving side 2 side) produces a metal grinding/wheel bearing feel ,i can feel it through the pegs ?? rear wheel has less than 1mm play when wheel rocked top 2 bottom, none from side 2 side eg swing arm/lever mounts. if it were a CBR i would be 99 % it'd be rr wheel bearings any replys would be appriciated ..

Your crown wheel bearing is about to go west.

Exactly the same symptoms a month ago & felt worse as I slowed down. Fortunately, this doesn't happen often (slowing down, that is) so I lived with it for a couple of rides & booked it into AJ's in Shipley. Went for a test ride on the 1200 after dropping off the 1150 & came home on a 650CS for a week. Went back for the GS & left with £360 less in my pocket.

By the time I had ridden over the Pennines, I had trashed every bearing in there. £125 for parts & £185 for labour plus VAT, thereabouts. Save yourself money & hassle & get fixing it.

Hmmm! yet another bevel box bites the dust. I'm going to do a bit of research into this shortly, the amount of cases is beyond normal wear and tear. Mr BMW...Methinks you (we) have a problem!

Dave.

Salt in the wounds :(

Damned right!!!! The CS went into the garage after a day, even though it was free to use. My CRM250 is miles better - smoother & quicker.

It was hard work riding the CS back to Shipley (M65 from Preston, then over the moors) with a tail wind. Got on the GS to come back home into the head wind & it was sooooooo easy. :P

Darth, I agree with you to some point. However, I had two gearboxes for my R80GS so that I could swap them around when the output shaft bearing packed in - which they did frequently. I also ride the GS like my 2 stroke trail bike so I am probably a bit harder on the FD than most. I was worried that it was the gearbox again, like on the old'un, so I was happier that it was the FD (cheaper to fix)

cheers for that fellas ,looks like i'll be busy this weekend after a visit to the dealers.
