final drive ratio

can anyone tell me is an 850 final drive the same ratio as an 1150 and are they interchangable

They are interchangeable but the gear ratio is much lower than the 2.82:1 of the 1150.Very revvy on the open road.

The 850R box is a bit lower at 3.2 and is a nice mod on a 1100
Plus i have a brand new surplus to requirements if anybody wants one

Final drives

Do not contemplate fitting an 850 box to an 1150, they go straight on but the ratio is so low that you could ride up the side of a house in second gear!.
I have done it and found out the hard way but the 1100 gs is the one to get
this is a nice lowering and is brilliant for traffic, no more clutch slipping and good acceleration. Sixth gear is a bit more revvy but I've now done about
40,000 miles on mine including long trips abroad through all kinds of terrain
and it's been brilliant. Ideal for the occasional off road fields included and Ideal if attending the next PPU "a beer in the country"!. Be careful to get one without or with ABS as required or you'll have to plug the hole for the sensor to keep the oil in. So have a go, the 1100gs box has a ration of 33/11.
