I've "finally" had to replace the crown-wheel bearing. Should I replace the taper roller bearing while I'm in there? ('02 GS 108k miles)
I already have a spare taper roller bearing so I'm inclined to use it. But I've heard that shimming will be required if I replace it. Is that really the case?
The old bearing does have a bit more play than the new one but the race doesn't appear worn.
Plus I'm not convinced my 2-leg bearing puller will get the race out easily. It's not giving me enough lip!
Should I leave well enough alone and be satisfied with a new crown-wheel bearing?
Thanks.
