Are the final drive units from the 1150 R and GS interchangeable and are the gear ratios the same? Thanks chaps.

Yes, got one on mine, same ratio, no holes to attach the mud guard thingy so I ditched that. Check if you need the abs one with a hole for the sensor though :thumb2

Try one from an 1100, slightly lower ratio and you loose a bit of top gaer overdrive but its so much better in traffic no mkore clutch abuse and very good off road. If you don't like it you can soon sell it again on here.
Dave (Low geared ) GS (and it will still do 125)

Funny you say that Dave... I've got one from an 1100S as I found that 5th ran out of puff too soon & 6th was too big a jump for my riding style. Gearing it up has made a huge difference to how it rides & it's still flippin' quick off the mark.

Paul, should have read 1100S 11/33 ratio, Adventure sitr recommended one from an R850 but this was too low good for trial riding but too low for anything else, 1100 one is good in all gears no big "Steps" at all.

There's a really useful site here...

1150GS = 31/11 = 2.82
1100GS = 33/11 = 3.00
1100S = 33/12 = 2.75

I seldom use 6th/E gear when not on a motorway, so wanted a better spread of useable gearing from 1st to 5th. That's why I've geared it up, rather than down. It makes no significant difference to the top speed but I used to find it could run into the rev limiter in 5th & now, it doesn't. I also used to find that gear changes were becoming almost 2-stroke like, when riding around the TT course, because the bike would rev so quickly through the range. Changing gear means no drive & by gearing the bike up, it's actully made it quicker... I paid €100 for a s/h FD & figured it was worth the cost as an experiment & could be sold on if it didn't work.

It isn't the only mod though, & the rest of them will also have an impact, so I don't think that gearing up on its own would work on a std bike. My bike has 1100S inlets, a K&N, 3.5 bar fuel delivery pressure (raised from 3 bar as standard), a powercommander (set up to improve throttle response & mid-range) & sports wheels (these have the effect of gearing down by around 4-5% depending on the tyres fitted).

Having a play around with all the different options on Anton's site (via the link above) was very useful in helping me to investigate the effects.
