i have been having a jar through the foot pegs on shutting throttle only happened maybe 6 times since feb thats about 1-2 k thought maybe shaft splines or final drive. got around to checking it this week. no play in rear wheel bearing but on draining the oil a large chip of tooth came out and few more bits and oil is pure silver im thinking not worth stripping just lookout for a good s/h one as it still rides fine not even noisey have found a cheap rt one local but gearing different. it a 2002 1150 50k abs any ideas or anyone got a spare to sell

I would think that replacing the bearing(s) would be better than swopping the FD with another that could fail the same way within a few k.??
It's not a difficult job, It can't be if I can do it.

Errm - you'd replace the bearings in a FD that had lost a tooth from one of the cogs? :eek

Sounds like an opportunity to review the gearing & have fun modifying...

The RT drive is geared slightly lower, but depending on what you use the GS for,it may be better for you.I've used an 1100GS drive in mine, finding top gear more useable. How much is the seller asking?.
Bits of metal in the drive isn't good but it's not difficult to take the cover off the bevel box and check out the gears, replace big bearing/seal etc.
A half decent independent should be able to sort out a final drive problem.

1100 rear bevel box is brilliant especially if you do any traffic work no more burnt out clutches ore stripped gear box splines, just crawl along in the traffic with the clutch fully home and relax!!.

thanks for all replys a rt one is from £150 cant find a gs one local i can do bearings no problem but thats not going to fix teeth and to strip just to look seams waste of time as i know what ill find and bike will be off road till i find one to replace ill just wait till i find one or if it goes big time get one from motor works thanks all ;)

F D.

Well if you fit the "wrong one" as a temp you'll soon sell it again probably for the price you paid.
