Ok had my gearbox replaced under warranty ( 4 days remaining ) changed the oil after 600 miles just incase. Then 3 weeks later had the final drive replaced under good will. Just changed the oil in that after 600/700 miles and it was black with bits of metal contained within it. The abs sensor was covered with iron filings.

I have now fitted the new magnetic level plug and will be changing the oil along with the gearbox oil every 6000 miles. :clap

Sealed for life I think not. :nono

Which oil did you use?, Castrol SAF-XO or did you try another brand?

Hi Gavin.

I used Mobilube SHC 75W - 90 LS. It is a fully synthetic , low sulphur gear oil.
The main reasons for using this oil is that it a higher spec oil that BMW recommend and also its free. ( gallons of it where I work )

Marvellous - best you get a nice bike with a chain instead! I'm well unimpressed with GS transmissions in general I'm afraid. At least you can see what's going on with a nice chain.

I agree - simpler, almost as long lasting as GS transmissions seem to be, and much less unsprung weight.
