Might be getting a bit paranoid here . Had a slight bit of play in my back wheel but it was the paralever bearings. I tightened them up not over tight and all is fine now. While i was on i changed the oil so put fresh oil in as you see in the picture on the right, nice and golden. I rode it for 300 miles and it came out the colour you see in the bucket. Im hoping this is ok or is it pending doom. There wasn't any shavings in the oil it was all clear. Im hoping its just me over thinking.cheers tony also bearings and seals where replaced 9000 miles ago..

When I replaced the FD oil on my GSLC after 11k miles it was black and stank.

It's always been a mystery to me why car rear axle oil is never changed but bikes need to be often.

Are they so under-engineered that they put huge strain on the oil?

If its the right oil and no metal the chances are things are OK... Its easy to over worry with oilheads but in the main they are very strong bikes even if the act and sound a bit like a tractor...:thumb

It shouldn’t be that dark. Spin the rear wheel and listen for rumbling or feel for roughness.

no rumbling or roughness the photo makes the oil look darker than it is what would make it go darker maybe old oil on the inner walls of fd.

I change mine every year. It so far comes out the same colour it went in albeit a little cloudy.

Blimey. I've never ever had FD oil that black. In fact I had tiny specks of black in mine last summer that left me worrying .

Was there any Molly grease in there? Other than that, I'd guess a seal has totally broken down or there's something off about the oil that went in 300 miles ago.

same oil what went in gear box, oil in gear box after 9000 mile still nice and golden think it needs opening up to have look..

It would worry me, when my oil goes in it looks like pink milkshake, and comes out about the same

Yep. Luckily you've got an 1150. It's pretty straightforward
