Hello all.

After a brief 18 month fling with a K1300R I took delivery of my nice shiny new 1200GS LC at the weekend.

The nice people at Rainbow have always looked after me through my 1100GS, 1200GS, the K and now this and all went great.

I've tried to avoid looking on here before it arrived so as not to panic when reading all the usual end of the world naysayers which is probably a bit strong so apologies if it offends but I wanted to give it a fair crack on Saturday and see for myself.

I managed just over 100 miles on Saturday afternoon on all sorts of roads to see how it went and below are my thoughts.

Having had GS bikes before I probably don't notice any gear box stuff that 's been mentioned.
The gear box clunks and there's lots of noises but it's a GS so, as I've always done before, I put my ear plugs in and sing! :augie

The engine seems leaps ahead of the 04 GS I last owned and was a nice surprise as I thought that I would lose a lot of grunt coming from the K1300.

The seat seems comfier than I remember but it might be that my 04 GS seat had been squashed flat by my lardy arse over time turning it into a plank.

The reach to the bars and switches is perfect for me straight out of the box and I could've ridden for much longer without any issues.

I'm smack on 6 foot tall and the screen does shift a lot of wind but I found it still in my face over 50mph which isn't a complaint as it is far better than the 12 I owned and after the K1300R it is luxury

My trip took me into the peak district on A roads, B roads and home via the M1 after riding over the Strines so I could check the cruise control (never had that on a bike before).

All in all I am chuffed to bits and can't stop smiling.

Added my first farkle thanks to the crud catcher from Mark Hooton of this parish and the plate to fasten my Givi top box on has arrived today.

I'd forgotten how addictive and easy to ride the GS is and must admit that I think me and GS bikes suit each other.

I've got to admit that I haven't really played around with any of the settings as I have been doing what I always do and just getting on it and riding it. I'll adjust stuff as and when.
I do have one query regarding the display though as I can't see how to customise it to show current speed. Is this only for certain option bikes?

As for it failing on this and that or falling to pieces then I think I'll cross that bridge when/if I ever get to it.
The 04 I had should have been a disaster of a bike to own when you look into the problems people had but I can honestly say that apart from the engine casing corrosion that I have come to expect (however wrong that attitude is) it never missed a beat.

So I'm going to keep firmly on this side of the fence and say I'm glad to be back on a GS.

Oh and by the way I went for the fast grey version! :D

Thanks for letting me bore you.

Andy

You've made the right decision.:thumb Did you go for the TE version? If so, this comes with the customisable computer so you can display your current speed.:beerjug:

Cheers for the replies.
I went for the Enduro as I wanted enough bits to try the odd lane but didn't think I'd need the TE.
At least I know now that I can't adjust the display.

Congrats on ya new toy :D

I did a similar thing. On GS's since 2004. 1150GS, 1150 ADV, 1200ADV then a K1200GT.

I love the GT but it lacks the character of a GS so on an innocent trip to the dealers to exchange a pair of faulty GS Dry gloves I came away with a new GSA LC on order  :D :blast :D

Jon :beerjug:

Yep. That sounds a very similar story.
I went to price up an 800GS but got mixed up.
If I could afford both then I would have kept the K1300R as I have never had a bike like it.
As it is I will be on the GS much more as it is a great all rounder.
Enjoy your new toy too.

Good on you ! Love my GSA WC . Love the way you can Change the Dash to show all sorts of Shite like Speed and Voltage , it even gives you a prompt to change gear (disabled !) but it is the best Bike I have owned . Had a flat battery turned out a guy renting my nearby coach house had gone in my garage to sit on it and play had left the ignition on
