Excellent bike, trying at the min to keep it below 4k! The gearbox is sweeter than the 04 model I test rode and the engine seems smoother, although I am aware demo bikes get a hard time!!

I've got the seat on the lowest setting(i'm 5'11) however i've got a problem finding a setting with the screen, would it be worth putting the seat on the higher setting? Not having any problems with grip but how hard can I push the tourances? Pegs down hard? I've already used up the whole with of the tyre.

Second question is about luggage, I can currently get a set at cost price(20% off list) but are there better bits of kit out there at a cheaper price?

Also I noticed the front shock says WP on it.... I thought they were BMW units!?

Sorry about all the questions! Loving the bike so far!

Welcome and congratulations on the new bike. I just picked mine up last week as well so am very new to the BMW experience.

There seems to be a wealth of knowledge on here so no shortage of help.

I have the seat on the high setting (I'm 6'0) and have yet to find a happy medium with the screen. Had it set at it's furthest back setting and found this ok but by no means perfect. I believe the 'Tobinators' help. Or just taking the screen off!!!

First run I had on it I was scuffing my boots as they go round corners so well and feel very confident banked over so pannier scapping won't be a problem;)

I am waiting for a pair of the BMW panniers and here good things about them, look pretty good too.

Yes the supenders are indeed made by WP, good quality kits if the stuff on my brothers KTM is anything to go by.

Hi,
I think you have to decide what you want the screen to do...
I have set it to lowest (5'10") as I believe that letting air at the helmet keeps it steadier. I think that is what is is designed for, not really as a full windshield.
FWIW...

It's BMW allright.

But the front suspension is designed by Marzocchi and the shock absorber is manufactured by WP.

The starter engine is made in Poland.

The gearbox is designed and manufactured by Getrag.

The brakes are manufactured by Brembo.

The ABS and engine management system is Bosch.

Etc, etc, etc, etc.

Screen on the 1200GS

My advice is leave the screen in mid position for a time and see if you become used to it & you will probably, perhaps subconsciously, slightly adjust your riding position; If it doesn't work try another position of the screen; If you keep on fiddling with it you will end up buying a 'replacement' and start the whole process again. I haven't touched mine for months and it is fine for me at just over 6' tall. I am conscious of wind blast when I get WELL over the limit - and that is just as well ! Brian
