Well it did not take long! Washing the bike today and ....the start of corrosion:blast
17 months old and 6000 milles never ridden on salty roads , started on the bottom bolt front of the engine so I rubbed it down and applied acid 8 under coat hammerrite tomorrow , best I get used to it I suppose they all seem to suffer from it there and the centre stand oh well!!!:augie

Same here. 18 months old, front engine cover bolts and inside the rear hub.
Never ridden in salt, garaged and washed. Fitted a crud catcher which stops the shite from covering the front of the engine (works brilliantly actually) as for the rest I just tell myself it's a bike FFS and that's what they do. My Harley is the same age and it's a bloody site worse than the BMW.

It's still under warranty, take it to the dealers and get a claim in with BMW.:rob

If you've messed with it you may have voided the anti corrosion warranty. Speak to your dealers nicely, the replacement part will also have warranty on it. I went through 3 front covers on my 2004 bike, solved by using dielectric paint on the alternator belt cover bolt threads/front cover threads along with ditching the rubber foam pad under the cover and using ACF50/FS365.

Now use a crud catcher on my current GSA along with the above.

Well I have started the repair I don't hold out for much hope at my dealer as I am sure the service manager would say its all my fault! Last time I had a issue with the paint coming off my wheels of my new 650twin it was my fault for using baby wipes to clean them they are abrasive you know pmsl....then I had the chain replaced for loosing o rings I ask if he will be fitting a diferent type as there failing 'oh no there is nothing wrong with them BMW would not supply poor quality chains' 6 months later changed under a recall!!!

But all the front engine covers seem to corrode by the bolt holes and last night I noticed that there is no paint around the holes so where I first thought it was caused by stone chips I'm now thinking otherwise!
I do have a fender extender fitted but not a crud catcher, I may just apply acf50 to the bolt hole areas and see what happens

Corrosion.

Coincidence - just completed my note with pictures for my dealer to take a look at - Nov 2010 R1200GSA with 22k on it. ACF50'd at each service by dealer.

This is my 5th GS and I havent really seen an improvement since my first in 2001 to be honest...

Bahnstormer Motorrad never quibbled once over the corrosion on my bike, in fact quite the opposite they were very proactive in resolving my problem through BMW UK. The corrosion occurs beneath the paint due to galvanic corrosion, causing blistering of the alloy. Once it begins you will struggle to cure it.

During the last service (12k miles, 12 months old) my dealer (Wollaston, Northampton) noted corrosion/paint flaking off the rocker covers and replaced them under warranty without me even grumbling about it.
