Finally shaken into place?

After buying my beloved R1200GS three years ago I have been following this excellent forum. In the beginning there was a lot of whining abut the (lack of) quality in this bike. This whining was justified; the bike certainly had a lot of issues. I should know, my bike had its share.

However, lately the whining seems to have subdued. Why? Are the whiners out of steam? Or has this bike finally been shaken into place?

No Babu I certainly havent run out of steam!! The thing is I love my GS 2004 model but still hate the reliability issues. Currently mulling over changing but just cant bring myself to do the deed. Suppose Im smitten with the bike as its what I wanted and have been on the whole satisfied. I just cant get the reliability issues out of my head though. Wife wants me to change, I want to change, but want to stay with the GS. Resale values are a joke with BMW franchises and cant justify parting with another £4000 to get another which MAY turn out to be just as unreliable. Love it though.

Just a thought

Could a change of dealer be the answer? No, I know that may not be a fair comment in your case but........
They have built and sold 100,000 of these things - yet I don't often see them (mine included) in the workshops.

maybe... it would be interesting to find out if certain dealerships have more than there fair share of issues ??? :nenau

They most certainly have. My dealer was ok, but the garage... God help us.

The bike did have issues from the factory, but the Bmw garage who were supposed to fix them made things considerably worse. They f***ed up numerous times, topping it by making my bike a death trap.

Needless to say, I don't use them anymore - and I tell my story to anyone who might be tempted to use them.

the bikes are better and the level service given by BMW have both improved over 3 years in my opinion.

....although of course some of us were fortunate to have found reliable dealers already (30 years with BM's)
