Probably something known to a lot of you guys but only just found out that my Nav 5 will link to the bike's VIN and record it in memory. If Nav 5 security is switched on it will ask for a PIN but when connected to the 'bike looks for the registered VIN. If connected to a different bike or you try to run it off the bike it will ask for the pin. Methinks that is a bit clever.

Also found out the battery has been moved. Only found out having spent a few minutes looking in the usual place, resorted to the manual and there it is, under a side cover on the off side of the 'bike!

Now I've just got to figure out which cables power the central locking so that I can get that to also control my Givi top box.

nice find , very interesting , i bet there is a factory re set button , but any tyep of security is good news... its disappointing you cannot lock the nav 5 to the bike , its only a button away from being robbed !

No physical button but reset can be achieved by holding down power button for 10 secs. However, as far as I can make out, this doesn't wipe the security pin (Garmin Lock). The security code for the sat nav is also linked to the secure GPS location that is selected when you setup the security pin so it doesn't ask you to enter the pin when you are at that location.

So, if Garmin Lock is on and you attach the sat nav to the bike and it recognises the bike's VIN, then you won't be asked for the pin. Likewise if it isn't on the 'bike and you switch it on when you at the secure GPS location you won't get asked for the pin.

Went out on my first business trip with the bike yesterday, only about 1 1/2 hours each way on a mixture of A, B and back roads but feels more comfortable (narrower seat?), lighter (heavier than old RT but weight lower down) and certainly more grunt albeit still 'running in'. The clutchless gear changes are really good as long as you don't try them at too low speeds when they become very clunky / jerky, but, to be fair, Lind did warn me about this when I collected the 'bike. I saw reported that it's a problem if you want to quickly drop a cog to accelerate past something, I didn't find this to be a big issue, just closed the throttle, click down then open throttle, much the same as you would normally but without the clutch. Hill start control is clever, just quickly pull in the front brake lever and rear brake is locked on. Then pull away as normal and brake is released. I did have a slight problem with this at one pint, I had parked in a car park pointing uphill with front of bike touching kerb. Got back on 'bike and thought that I'd try the hill start control whilst I faffed about in the saddle getting ready for the return trip home. It then hit me that I can't pull away as I can't go forward but another quick pull on the front brake releases the brakes, so no problem. It did take me about 10 minutes to think of this, but no-one was watching!!
Just got to work out how to fit the aux light mounting bars so that I can fit some LED spots.

Rong,
Your experience mirrors mine.

My favourite thing so far - the throttle response in Dynamic mode. Just off idle its brilliant.

Worse thing so far is that my 600 mile service is booked for 15th and today (day5) I clocked 400 miles, so it'll be standing still for all of next week.

If you go with the light brackets, can you please take a photo before fixing them to the bike? I'm planning to get some / make some and would like to see how they mount.

Thanks,
Mark

Hilarious

I can picture it

Thanks for making me chuckle:D

im interested in fitting some new spots , can you keep us posted please as to where you put them etc ..

@Mark
I tried the Dynamic mode just to see what it was like, switched it back fairly quickly (well, I am running it in), quite a difference! I've only done about 200 miles so far but have some more business trips planned for the coming weeks so will be in for a service in a few week's time. Hopefully Lind will have taken delivery of the head protectors by then.

Photos of brackets herewith.

Thanks for the pics. It looks as though they bolt to the engine / frame mount - I'll print the pics tomorrow and take them out to the garage. Probably a bit too 3D to easily make a set. Do you mind if I ask what they cost? Cheers, Mark

£80! I was going to get the whole BMW LED aux lights but decided to go with Denali instead as they can be dual intensity when used with either main or low beam.

I had a quick look to see where the brackets would fit on the 'bike but couldn't see anything that obvious, especially as the brackets have only got a single bolt fixing. There are small plates near where the water pipes go into the engine casing but I'm not to sure if they are the correct locations. I really need to spend some more time looking in a bit more detail.

Yep, they were the plates the brackets fit to. One bolt fixing is enough as they bear against the fixing plates, I'll take some piccies tomorrow and post them on here.

£80 is a bit steep but I suppose they are fairly neat and unobtrusive. I wondered about the single bolt fixing too, but I guess they've been tested for strength / stiffness.

I've not heard of Denali before but I'll check them out.

All the best, Mark

A thing that I have suffered with over the years is the dreaded WFS or White Finger Syndrome. When I had my GS I bought a pair of Grip Puppies but these didn't make a great deal of difference. With my last RT it wasn't too bad and I was hoping that the new RT would be better at smoothing out the bar tingles. Unfortunately I've not found an improvement but maybe when the engine is bedded in it will be better. In the meantime, has anyone got any suggestions to improve it? I was thinking about different bar ends - heavier but not too sure if this will make much difference?

A way that I do lessen the problem, which I should add is mainly in the right hand fingers, is to run with the heated grips on, but when the temperature gets up to the heady 12 degrees or so I feel that I shouldn't have them on!

After posting this I did what I should have done first of all, search the forum. Lots of interesting stuff about WFS to be found.

I have noticed on a demo model that the windscreen reverts to down position on switching off ignition. A friend really hates this feature although its what I generally do myself. What do those who have the bike think? Is there an over-ride?

I really like that feature, especially as it reverts back to my default position when I start to drive away - coolio!

A couple of niggles with new RT. Prop stand is in different position, a bit further forward? so takes a bit of getting used to. Centre stand, can't get foot on it as easy as old RT but a lot easier to get onto centre stand.
Minor issues which will go away with use.
Some others have complained that the indicator switch is now further away when you have the scroll wheel fitted. I found this to be an issue for about the first 10 miles, brain has now adjusted to the new location (same hopefully for points above).
The more I use the clutchless gear changes the more I'm liking it ditto hill start. Always managed before but these just make it so much easier.
Hopefully my LED's will arrive today so I can fit them this weekend.

yes this is true ,the default setting is closed ,not seen an overide on it ......however when the ignition is turned back on it reverts to the position it was last in .....so its not really any different apart from the closing when you switch off

Another couple of niggles. The made the new dash so you can adjust its angle to prevent glare off it but why not do the same for the SatNav? I've adjusted the angle on mine by shimming it out but.......
Why, on the non audio equipped model, don't we get the second lockable storage space on the right hand side?
