With the plethora of buttons and features on 1250/1300’s now, backlighting is essential
Back on 1150’s when there were just a few buttons on the switchgear and no TFT it’s not necessary

But every time the lack of backlighting is mentioned, some arrogant cockwomble pops up and states that you shouldn’t be riding a bike if you can’t find the switches just by feel and without looking .Agreed

I don’t ever need the wizz wheel to amend setting whilst riding, the only two things I frequently change while actually riding is screen and heated grips and seat. Default up and down screen on the single button and then one long press on the burger button and then use the button to amend heat, it really is very easy, honest.Mine is just one quick press of the burger button then wizz wheel to get what you want then up and down arrows for change . Easy
That’s true . It’s so easy to operate . I only mentioned the wizz wheel if you needed to change other stuff. Even then it’s a doddle .I don’t ever need the wizz wheel to amend setting whilst riding, the only two things I frequently change while actually riding is screen and heated grips and seat. I can’t disagree with any of that and if they can backlight a 1150 hazard warning switch on the switchgear 25 years ago, surely on 1250&1300’s they can do it nowBut every time the lack of backlighting is mentioned, some arrogant cockwomble pops up and states that you shouldn’t be riding a bike if you can’t find the switches just by feel and without looking .
Most road tests criticise this omission but perhaps BMW read the forums and realise they can get away with it because owners view it as a threat to their manhood.
Just read the comment by Jetcock above describing the convoluted process as easy . You couldn’t make this shit up, even with todays date![]()
I’ve got four bikes and on two of them I can’t even remember which way to turn the different fuel taps to ‘on’ or ‘reserve’ !I pity those poor buggers with a choice of steeds in the garage, they have no chance.
But many GS owners blindly swap to a new GS every three years to coincide with PCP/warranty expiring without trying any other more modern alternatives.I can’t disagree with any of that and if they can backlight a 1150 hazard warning switch on the switchgear 25 years ago, surely on 1250&1300’s they can do it now

You need the button to be backlit to find it? I bet the ladies love you!But every time the lack of backlighting is mentioned, some arrogant cockwomble pops up and states that you shouldn’t be riding a bike if you can’t find the switches just by feel and without looking .

Just googled a picture of it and it does look a little like a hamburger. How very apt for GS riders. It’s only on the 1300 I believe
Says it all reallyYou need the button to be backlit to find it? I bet the ladies love you!
More to go wrong with water ingress in backlit switches. Long may we be kept in the darkWhen it’s warm I have the screen allocated to the rocker switch because it’s the only thing I want to adjust on the move, I have heated seat and grips as secondary function (press the burger button)
When it’s cold I inverse them, so rocker switch up for grips, down for seat, it’s pretty simple really, just have to inverse them about every 6 months
I’m sure backlit switches are very nice to have but as I very rarely ride at night I’ve never missed them
In one......perfect comboI've set mine up so the rocker switch moves the screen up/down. A long press on the hamburger button puts the rocker switch temporarily into heated grip mode.
Yup, same here. It’s not difficult! In one......perfect combo

Backlit buttons only help if you look at them which means you are not looking at the road. How is that good? I know where my controls are without looking thankfully. If you don't, get some practice in during daylight![]()
