First 100 miles on 1300 v 1250

Agreed
With the plethora of buttons and features on 1250/1300’s now, backlighting is essential

Back on 1150’s when there were just a few buttons on the switchgear and no TFT it’s not necessary
The voice of experience 😂

But every time the lack of backlighting is mentioned, some arrogant cockwomble pops up and states that you shouldn’t be riding a bike if you can’t find the switches just by feel and without looking .
Most road tests criticise this omission but perhaps BMW read the forums and realise they can get away with it because owners view it as a threat to their manhood 😜.

Just read the comment by Jetcock above describing the convoluted process as easy . You couldn’t make this shit up, even with todays date 🤔😜

Mine is just one quick press of the burger button then wizz wheel to get what you want then up and down arrows for change . Easy
I don’t ever need the wizz wheel to amend setting whilst riding, the only two things I frequently change while actually riding is screen and heated grips and seat. Default up and down screen on the single button and then one long press on the burger button and then use the button to amend heat, it really is very easy, honest.

That’s true . It’s so easy to operate . I only mentioned the wizz wheel if you needed to change other stuff. Even then it’s a doddle .

When it’s warm I have the screen allocated to the rocker switch because it’s the only thing I want to adjust on the move, I have heated seat and grips as secondary function (press the burger button)

When it’s cold I inverse them, so rocker switch up for grips, down for seat, it’s pretty simple really, just have to inverse them about every 6 months :nenau

I’m sure backlit switches are very nice to have but as I very rarely ride at night I’ve never missed them

Knowing the function and location of every switch and button used to be obvious and common for most riders.

Then electronics came along and manufacturers started breeding the bloomin’ things.

Now it seems, that there is every possible function available except possibly wiping your backside.

I pity those poor buggers with a choice of steeds in the garage, they have no chance.

The Hamburger button is just a short cut to all the variety of 'essential' functions that you might consider important.
Simply select the two functions that you consider most important then dedicate them to that button for quick access, in order of preference 1st / 2nd.
It takes 10 secs or less to apply the button to a different function.
But that is something you really shouldn't be doing while riding day or night for obvious reasons, although I expect we all do.
The alternative would be to have a dozen plus more buttons and knobs on the bars for instant access to everything.
It's reallly not complicated to use.

The lack of backlit switch gear on this level of bike is a penny pinching pain in the arse that the BMW engineers should be totally ashamed of.
(Even so it's fairly instinctual to know where your buttons are in relation to your fingers and thumbs. Even in the dark)

I can’t disagree with any of that and if they can backlight a 1150 hazard warning switch on the switchgear 25 years ago, surely on 1250&1300’s they can do it now
Cheapskates

But many GS owners blindly swap to a new GS every three years to coincide with PCP/warranty expiring without trying any other more modern alternatives.
That’s probably why BMW haven’t bothered to upgrade the TFT for a decade . New owners instantly feel at home looking at the same old screen they’ve had on their last three bikes !

It’s lazy engineering but not helped by owners who don’t like change or trying something different .

You need the button to be backlit to find it? I bet the ladies love you!

More to go wrong with water ingress in backlit switches. Long may we be kept in the dark😁😁😁

silly screen of madness - why can't it default to the info screen at least some data is displayed - is it two nudges down - but then the rev counter is missing

on the bikes that came with real instruments, I had fuel, temp, revs, speed, gear indicator and other stuff - now we are not allowed all that sensible stuff at one time !

Backlit buttons only help if you look at them which means you are not looking at the road. How is that good? I know where my controls are without looking thankfully. If you don't, get some practice in during daylight (y)
