Hi guys, done 7k on my 2011 yellow Gsa, just booked it into Pidcocks service dept for its first service after the running in oil & filter change..

Quoted £149 instead of the usual ? (a figure I forget, but well over £200)
Is this a good price.?

It's gonna be cold on thursday for a 100 mile ride to dealers, can't wait to be back on it though..

Not wanting to open a can of worms here but I really need my service book stamping & warranty kept intact..

Got the below in an email yesterday from Park Lane, so perhaps they are all (or should) be reducing service costs over the quiet Winter period.

SERVICING OFFERS FROM BMW PARK LANE MOTORRAD

Oil/Oil Filter and Health Check Was £125 NOW £79

Oil/Oil Filter and Health Check. Valve Set and Synchro Was £225 NOW £149

Oil/Oil Filter and Health Check. Valve Set and Synchro. Air Filter. Rear Drive and Gear Box Oil.

Was £285 NOW £199

6,000 Mile Service Was £200 NOW JUST £140

12,000 Mile Service Was £250 NOW JUST £200

18,000 Mile Service Was £425 NOW JUST £300

Price sounds reasonable to me. The £200+ is for the combined 6000mile and 1 year service. If you're not lucky enough that they fall at the same time you get stung for both services. However, some dealers use their noggin and if they're not that far apart only do the 'extra' bits rather than the job lot :thumb2

Under Block Exemption Rules you don't need to have your bike serviced by a BMW dealer to keep your warranty intact you do however have to have it serviced at the recognized service sheduled time which means you're already 1000 miles overdue :blast

I believe this is true for the initial 2 year warranty (which this clearly is), but for extended warranty they can stipulate that it MUST be a main dealer. The way they get around this is because the extended warranty is classed as an insurance rahter than true warranty, or something like that  (At least that's true for BMW cars)

My dealer said they do allow 1k either side :thumb2

A quick check on Piddlycocks website & they're doing special service rates for the winter :) every little helps as they say a@ tesco :beerjug:

Milage & yearly service

Hi guys, looking like its not too bad a price then, re the milage, I was away when I hit the first run in service so it had 900 miles on it, i also struggled to get it booked in anywhere local, nearly a months notice needed in the summer months, Pidcocks is a fair long way from my home but they did fit me in for a service within a few days, anyway, they then set the service interval to count from 6000 + the original 900ish, I did question them when I collected it after the last service.

Does anyone know what the extras are between the 6k & yearly service.?

Thanks for info..

..

should be the same , its 6000miles OR 12months whichever comes around first.
ie. if you did 12k miles a year you would have 2 services 1 at 6 and 1 at 12
if you only did 5k miles then your service would be due on the anniversary of the previous service.

This is not true for the twin cams, unless this has changed in the last 6 months. The service schedule has been posted on here before, but there's clearly a service for 6000 miles AND 1 year, and some of the items that are covered are different. I queried this with my dealer as wasn't happy when I found out, and they confirmed that it is 2 different services, unless you're lucky enough to combine them at the same time (like me :D). Just another way BMW have our pants down

ive only recently moved up to the twin cams so you may be right , what a shitter !

Thursday's the day..

Hi guys, I live in Louth but work Nottingham pretty regular, I just made the journey at 3 Celsius, arrived at midnight ready for the short trip to Pidcocks tomorrow,( I'm happy Astles couldn't fit me in during the summer period or I would av been going back to em now..)
I think southport superbikes were a similar price or maybe even cheaper for the winter servicing, but unless I'm collecting a new bike or the weathers exceptionally good it's a long journey for me..

I will ask about the yearly but I left the service book at home I think.. I'll check under seat tomorrow..

I'll update after the service, I'm sure there will be a few extras that will need attending to.. :beerjug:

My manual says service once a year or more frequently if you do high milages. The bike tells you when - there are no predefined service milages printed in the log book any more

Maybe they've decided to change the scheduling then due to complaints. It was defo as I explained when mine was due, and even struck a 'deal' with my dealer to combine the annual and 6000 mile service. What I mean by this is that at 1 year I hadn't done too many miles (new business commitments) so they allowed me to delay the service by one month and fall short on the mileage to save me having to have 2 services.
Anyone know when this changed then?

Update after the service today

Ok, arrived at Pidcocks, gave em my reg number, true enough as per phone call £149.. Although for a 6 month old bike BMW 'suggested' I have the brake fluid changed thereafter every 2 years. (quite rightly the service guy agreed with me to leave the brake fluid till next time)

The electronic service counter was reprogrammed to count down either 1 year OR 6000 miles from this service, whichever is sooner. Which I am quite happy with.

Oil changed using Castrol power 1 10/50.. I have a small top up bottle under tank but I am so happy to say in 7000 miles I have needed only a VERY small amount of oil used.

Good result except for the rain when leaving Notts.

Hmmm, sounds as though the schedule has changed then. The 2011 bike is the same as the 2010 (DOHC) one isn't it?

My bike is 10 months old, got the 6k done, then he says to bring it back in jan for the brake fluid for the 1yr stuff
