First 6000 service 2011 GSA

i thought brake fluid change was bi-annual. have they changed the schedule?

I think that is new. Wasn't done on my last bike. Probably not a bad idea, but harder on the pocket.

Is it necessary though, Bob?

No idea Johnny. The rationale explained to me was that when the bikes are built there may be a delay of weeks or months before they are registered and first used by first owner, so they change the brake fluid at one year after registration to ensure it has been done in good time and then go on to bi annual changes. Fortunately it is not a big job on the post servo bikes but it is still an additional expense.

That was the same explanation given to me yesterday, sounds reasonable but maybe if the option was to have the fluid tested (easy job) for water content & change as required.
I can't see this one little post will change BMW policy though..

I have personally tested fluid on old cars for water content & the results scare the pants off ya..

Anyway, next service I'll have my fluid changed. :beerjug:

If the brakes start feeling spongy then have them do it at first annual service - otherwise I would leave for 2 years ;)
I know when mine was built and so it will easily last for 2 years before the fluid will need changing :D
BM's system should also be able to tell the build date of the bike and so they will know how long it has been hanging around before being first registered.

My Superduke by comparioson was an 08 bike which I bought new in late 2009 - changed the brake fluid within 3 months myself and made a big difference.
