First big trip done... I'm now addicted!

Hi guys,

I've just returned from a 17 day trip from Wales to the Alps. It's my first big trip, having done quite a few UK weekends away, and all I can say about riding in the Alps is... OH... MY... GOD! Incredible!
Without doubt, the best roads and scenery I've ever seen in my life.
I had a rough plan before seeing out, but after many problems with my route app planned routes, I just set Google maps to avoid tolls and motorways.
I stumbled across some amazing places and routes. Did a big stretch of the tour de France route, explored the mountains around Annecy, Tignes, Val d'Isere, Vorcors region, and now I'm totally in love with the bike and touring.
Met some really cool bikers and other people at camp sites that I have fond memories of.
No regrets of ditching the sports bike now and already looking forward to next summer.
If anyone reading this is thinking of it, just go. You won't regret it.

Had the same feeling coming back from the Pyrenees. Spent the return trip planning the next one in my head.

you have some catching up to do. I started the overseas touring over 30 years ago. Off to the Pyrenees, La Rioja and Picos next month.

there are a lot or nice places between the Atlantic coast in Portugal and the Balkans. Still many bits between those extremities for me to visit. Where are you going next?

Accidentally I stayed in Logrono last year and it was san Matteo festival week, so I stayed additional nights. Was brilliant with loads of wine and excellent food in calle laurel.

I remember my first big trip many years ago, similar to yours actually.
That’s it now, you will spend each winter planning many more adventurous jaunts, pushing your boundaries further and further.

I had the exact same position end of July/first week August.

Yorkshire to Stelvio through France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland. Already planning next years trip!

Not sure yet, but having skiied in the dolomites last year, I think I'd like to return in the summer.

The app was just very buggy and I couldn't trust it. It would crash every time I switched the bike off and on (on the Carpuride), so needed to switch the app off and on. Which then reset my waypoint back to the beginning.
There was also quite a few times it completely missed the junction, and would sometimes go completely haywire after a junction with the map moving all over the place until it caught back up.
Some of these issues may have been due to my phone overheating which was a problem in the 38 to 40deg heat, but Google maps seemed fine.

MyRoute’s ‘Navigation’ app allows you to select which point to join a route at.

Really, try the forum’s very good GPS section, where several regular contributors may well be able to help you. I suggest this only in as much as lots of subscribers to the forum use MyRoute, its associated ‘Navigation’ app, in conjunction with (and without) a phone mirroring device, all without too many problems.

travelling to scenic places is good for the soul and your mental well being.

Its addictive and if i didnt have to keep returning to work i would travel all year round.
Sadly i quickly run out of holidays. Roll on retirement so i can fit more in.
