After 25 years and nearly 200,000 miles on 4 GSs I am considering a change after a serious accident on my 1250GS in the Picos last September. I loved my 2010 twin cam which I kept for 10 years and added ohlins early on. The 1250 had a nicer engine but never felt great (to me) around the corners. Like the sound of the R12GS and I think that engine is a peach, but how does it handle on the road ? Whilst I continue my recovery would be keen on any views in this respect as i can’t yet ride ! Mike, I don’t know about the ride but have sat on the r12G/S. The seat is noticeably hard, so something to get used to. Pretty bike, but will need extra protection across the exhaust at front and suspension adjustment at back. Tank is 15.5 ltr I believe so 180 mile range. Something that maybe important to you

Range of 180 miles is fine as on any bike after 90miles to 2 hours I’m ready for a break
Had an early 6am start and ride over Alston and into Carlisle this morning

Beautiful bike ! I need to reevaluate my bike use so was thinking solo seat as I won’t take the Mrs going forward. This could be ideal for me as I’ve done most of the Euro trips so may stick to the UK and Ireland. Have a nice car for longer trips.

Bike came with the pillion option although I have no intention of taking a pillion , the foot peg mounts will be ideal for fastening the Mosko Moto Reckless luggage system to and other than the strap on the seat there is little difference I can see with the solo seat . I didn't want to wait 12 weeks for a specific build just to lose the pillion option when this stock one had everything else I wanted on it

Came off on a greasy corner at 60, no warning. Possible diesel spill I’ll never know. Slammed straight into kerb / bike slid 150 ft down the road. Comments re air bags make a lot if sense very little protection from the clothing unfortunately. Spanish health service first class btw.
I loved the handling on a 1150/1200/1250. Telescopic forks on a GS ? I guess you’d have to get used to it probably less of an issue without a pillion. It is a backwards step for road use ?
I had a test ride on a G/S today.
I couldn’t fault it and IMHO it felt very much like a G/S (or GS) should.
The demo bike had the enduro pro pack fitted and it did feel on the tall side, even though I have a 33 inch inside leg.
Test ride recommended.
Will I buy one? We will see.

Picked one up myself, took a test ride on the non Enduro Pro Sand coloured variant and took it through the town, down the motorway for about 10 miles and a spin round country roads and it was great on them all. I imagine a long motorway journey would be the main down point, however I really liked it.
The dealer had an enduro pro model available and I too didn't want a 12 week wait to get one delivered so happily took it and all the rest of the add ons they had specced and had the knobbly looking tyres changed to some Metzeler Tourance Next 2s. I hate knobblies and won't ever be off road anyway, and really rate the Tourance Next 2.
It will benefit (and need) some extra protection so hopefully rheumatologist likes of cymarc makes some nice add ons, with that fancy headlight, some sort of protection for that would be good too.

How comfortable is that saddle ? Prefer the look of it, hope it’s not like a plank !
To be fair I have only done 20 odd miles on it.
Had no issues. Actually found it a better than the one on the test drive - which had the pillion pack.
My only other comparison that I can personally make is if you have ever ridden a XRV Africa Twin. It looked like and was like a bench. Numb ass and nuts within a few miles.
In comparison this is worlds apart and comfortable.
I took one out whilst my GSA was in for a service in Vines a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Peach of an engine, very smooth gear changes with the quick shifter and the bike the R9T Urban GS should have been... There will be one in my garage before the year is out....
