Took my new 12GS for it's first real ride today. 10miles of trails and snow plus 150 road miles in various conditions. ]

It has Dulop trailmax tyres and handled the trails remarkably well, even when other on TKs and Tourances where binning theird - it stood upright all the time - I was well impressed.

On the road it was fantastic. Much swifter, more responsive and greater handling than my 1150 - so a real improvement there.

All in all - it's great - I love it.

BUT

• The screen rattles like mad - what can I do?

• My heel is marking the swingarm - anyone else having this problem?

• My TT tankbag is marking the centre tank panel -
- BEWARE potential buyers of said item - anyone else having this problem?

• New clear rear brake light lens is cheap and nasty ( from NNs) - it lets in water and is an all round bad fit - not impressed.

There you go - if anyone can advise me how to rectify the screen problem I will be chuffed. I have a Sedcem one on the way but I'm sure that will rattle too.

Hi Stoney,

well done in not binning it today!

1, keep everything tight. They do rattle but improve as the engine loosens up.

2, a few folks (with bigger boots than myself) have quickly worn the frame paint off.

3, that's why I bought a Baglux version.

4, not seen a bike fitted with the clear tail light so can't comment.

Enjoy the bike

1) Screen Problem....remove screen, then remove plastic centre mountings from subfrane, wrap PTFE tape or similar around the plastic pegs before replacing them...they need to ba a tight fit. Replace screen & adjust. Make sure all fasteners are secure......

2) No problem with heel marking frame/swingarm.....

3) TT tank bag: I cut some of that black rubber mesh luggage protector to fit under the the tankbag........no marks whatsoever.......if you look carefully you can just see it here: http://www.bmwridersscotland.com/bulletinboards/viewtopic.php?t=143

4) The NN clear lens is shyte......just waiting for the refund.....will ditch the separate LED light panel & replace with the sealed Touratech item (which is cheaper than the sum of NN parts anyway.......)

Cheers

I've put touratech replacements for the two front mounts on the screen , problem solved. they're machined ally rather than plastic like the originals. also have an O ring on the peg to soak up the end float that causes the rattle.
the cheap way would be to use an o ring on the existing parts. i think there is already a thread or two on this somewhere.
I missed you lot today I arrived in Hawes at 1.15 just missed you by 10-15 minutes.

Sorry to hijakc the thread - just a quick question.

Regarding the tank bag. How does it fare in teh wterproof dept, and is the velcor that secures the rear glued to the tank or a piece strapped to something?

I've no rattle, no paint wear and not tank bag as yet, so can't offer anything in return, sorry.

Thanks

My screen vibrates a lot, mainly at tickover. But its 'ok'.

Yes, I took the paint of the frame. And that was with my softish HG boots. Who knows what will happen with my off-road boots. Could do with some kind of a plate there. I'm probably going to try touching it up and putting some clear sticky protectors on.

My other observations of first 100 mile ride are handling superb, tyres great even tho not worn in. Only niggles are a jump out of gear (reported elsewhere, but could be a getting used to thing) and the seemingly very weak rear brake. Ohterwise a lovely ride.

Hi Eddy

It seems pretty waterproof evcen without the additional rainhood (which i also have). I guess with this on it's 100%.

Fitting is good, very sturdy and neat. A velcro fastener straps to the underneath of the seat (easy to hide when not in use) and a zip on tab hooks under the vin plate and is also secured with velcro. For £65 it's the cheapest going, sits firmly and is pretty neat (has a removavble A4 map pocket as well).

Only downside is the rubbing but that is remedied with some rubber mesh or a clear tank protector.

Andy

p.s. you'll get the other problems soon enough.!
