First Rospa session

That was my perception of it which is why I described it as reckless and unnecessary. 👍
Perception is a wonderful thing. Until you try something it is just rubbish. The Rapid coaches, coach and advise, they ask you before each level what you want to achieve. At no time do any of them push you to do anything outside of your comfort zone or skill level. It is not a road racing school.

And yet in videos I have seen from Rapid on YouTube the person doing the filming, the student, always tends to blur out their speedo, why would that be then?
There’s a time and a place to ride above legal speed limits and it’s on a track day, not on a public road.

Better keep an eye on your halo. But those who want to improve their riding skills and forward planning, there are options.

Always,tends,? Contradiction there I think

Well, after almost 50 years of riding (as of next week) I decided I should improve my riding skills and try to extinguish some of my bad habits, which are (well, where) riding too quickly and some reckless type overtakes etc. I decided to join my local IAM group (WYAMs). At no point was I encouraged to ride fast, that was the last thing I needed. at no point was I told I had to overtake (recklessly), I should look for a safe overtake within the speed limit, if I wasn't happy I should go back to the following position until it was safe to try again (SLAP). All very sensible. My riding has improved beyond belief. I recommend it for anyone that has the inclination to improve as far as safety, progress, and restraint is concerned. I now realise that whilst I've slowed down quite a lot, my progress is probably better and certainly more efficient.

Not only does it improve riding skills and encourages your own safety it also gives the opportunity to ride out with like minded riders frequently. There is not 1 club member (that I've seen) with a hi-viz, POLITE NOTICE vest. And to top it off, my 1:1 observer is an absolute legend.

I passed on Saturday, with a F1rst. The examiner also explained that overtakes are not strictly necessary, but if it's clear to do so, and within the law it should be considered, but not a make or break condition of the test, showing restraint is a good thing.

Going to move onto Masters now.

I'm not saying it's any better than ROSPA, but IAM has been good.
