First run in the dark headlight shake

Well tonight was the first real distance in the dark and must say surprised with the amount of shake in the headlights, is this normal that they shake around so much so you see you beam both dip and full bouncing around so much or do i have an issue??

Mine is pretty solid other than idle. There are 2 screws one either side and a pin and grommet on the bottom. Check the bottom is located properly and the grommet is in good nick also that the screws and frame are tight.
Is the beam aim about right? Wondering if the Reflectors are located on the adjuster balls properly if everything else is good.

mine vibrates a fair bit also. The headlight is tight and so are the bulbs.I dont know why but it does.

Make sure the peg underneath the headlight pod is properly seated in its rubber gromit. If its still flapping wrap some tape around the locating peg and order a new rubber. Also try it on high and low angle settings.

Mine did this too the previous owner had put the headlight assembly back in and left the washer out between frame and the rubber bung the pin screws into ,so tightening the pin only pulled the insert threw the frame and although pin went tight headlight still moved .its a bugger to get that insert out i extracted it using a small tube and pin then replaced missing washer and i also put small amount of insulation tape around the bottom lug as the gromet under clocks had worn with the vibration and its solid now no shaking

Mine did it but I could'nt find anything wrong, I bought a new grommet but it was stil the same, i ended up putting a washer over the bottom locating pin and that cured it, just had to re adjust the alignment.

Mine shook on Saturday morning, but that was due to crappy road surface; got onto a main road and all was well......as the lads have mentioned, double check your lower fastening arrangements.....

My money, smart or otherwise is the cup/ball adjuster arrangement has become seperated, mucho buggaration to fix but easier if you accept having to drill a small hole in the housing to allowleverage to relocate the cup on the ball.

Had the headlight off and apart tonight and i cant see the ball joint at the bottom that is talked about. IF i put my finger in through the bulbholder i can very slightly move the refelector so would this suggest its an issue at with the adjuster ball joint that i cant see?? I did see ball joints into white plastic on the side so is ther a further one at the bottom??

Also what is the locking piece of plastic at the bottom where there is an adjuster in the middle this was up so i sprung it down and re-aligned the beam what is this for the lever that flicks down??

So is it worth pulling the light then drilling a hole at the bottom to allow for trying to seat this bottom ball joint, does anyone have pics??

The whole headlight box is held by one M6 screw on each side and a rubber grommit underneath in the middle.

There is also a hi-lo flip adjuster that sits around the hi-lo adjusting screw at the bottom in the middle at the back

Thread resurrection time

My headlight/instruments seem to be vibrating a bit....2010 GSA .... so following the info above, lifted the headlight assembly up, and wrapped some tape that was about the same thickness as the pin, around said pin, and dropped the grommet back over it..... will see if it improves things

Drilling a hole is pointless, you cant work out where to drill, so you end up with either lots of little holes, or a bloody big one.

i stopped after realising i was going to feck the unit up worse than the way it was in the first place

Do a search on youtube for putting it back using a cable tie, leap of faith, but it goes back in far easier that way

If all else fails a new headlight glass is much less money than a new headlight. Break the old glass. Fix reflector problem. Fit new glass. All done for about £50. While in there drill a hole and loop a zip tie around the ball/cup so you can pull it back without breaking in again.

BTW, when the mirror adjusting ball cup acts up, your beam will be lighting treetops if it's even that low. The wobbly lamp will be the least of your concerns.

I still think mine is not right.... the lever on the back seems to move the reflector about 8mm ( as I think it probably should) but when the adjuster screw in the middle is screwed in ( which I thought was to lower the beam) it makes the lever really stiff and inactive..

the screw doesn't seem to make any impression on the reflector, the only thing that moves the reflector is the lever up or down.

Does this point to the ball and cup being at fault in the unit?
