I know the first service is due at 600 miles, but due to when I can get the bike booked in and my weekly commute to and from Wales, is it a big issue if it is done nearer to 1000?

I had the same issue as you but called Cotswolds BMW to explain but they warned me if I went over 750miles the warranty would be void so you maybe fecked

Check with your dealer. Exceeding the limit does no harm to your bike, but it may become an issue when it comes to voiding the warranty.

As an example, in my own case a couple of years ago, my dealer was rather busy when it was time for my first service on my 1250GSA.
I had planned a ride with my mates, but due to delayed 1 service, I would exceed the 1000 km limit. Talking to the dealer, he gave a 'go ahead', and the service was performed at 2300km.

Always book your run in service when you buy the bike

anywhere between 400 - 1000miles on the clock is fine for run in service. More than 1200 miles is not advisable.

Ref : BMW dealer where I bought mine from.

Ask your dealer by email so that you have something in writing. No good coming back to him in the future saying that you read that it was okay on the internet, even if other people have been told different.

Pick mine up tomorrow and was told anywhere between 600-1000 miles.

They did me a favour and managed to get it booked in for 2 weeks so I will be around the mark I need to be. Amazing some of the league times I was quoted. Tried to get it book in Cardiff while I am here in the week and was told not until October.

I've never know a single BMW warranty claim rejected for mileage or lack of servicing if it's within it's manufacturers or AUB warranty.

Insured warranty maybe more picky if it's an older bike. But still, highly unlikely.

These stipulations exist so they have wiggle room if you're putting in a fake or fraudulent claim and it stinks as such.

The handbook says

"BMW Running-in Check
The BMW running-in check has
to be performed when the motorcycle
has covered between
500 km and 1200 km."

In my opinion you missed a bullet by not having your bike serviced by bmw Cardiff apparently they are shocking with both services and sale

I have recently bought a new bike and have booked it in got it 600 mile service ( 20th September) earliest I can get, I have been told to keep it under 1000 miles, I hope this helps

Doesn’t answer the mileage question, but just booked mine in for it’s running service at Williams of Manchester for 3rd Sept. when I was on the phone, there was plenty of earlier slots available. Should have around 750 miles on it by then.

Do 600 miles, disconnect the doobriwaller and enjoy
